Growing avocados in south LA

Has anyone successfully done it to where it was producing fruit? I've read that the weather is quite tropical enough to get production. Curious if anyone has had success and how you started off the tree

Don't think it is feasible. Remember reading about this a while back.

When I lived in Houma there was a newspaper article about a guys avocado tree that made fruit for the first time in like 17 years after he planted it.
Good luck

Been having a hard time with avocados at our camp in Venice. My uncle is determined to get a producing plant. No luck yet. But I do know they have them down there and they produce.
I would say it's nearly impossible on the North shore.

Avocado trees can grow, and put out fruit in south La. As others have stated you have to keep them warm, and well watered. The BIG thing that most people don't realize is that you have to have at least 2 trees. Male/Female type issues so they can cross pollinate. Second an avocado tree will not even begin to produce fruit for the first 6 or 7 years of their life if you can keep them alive for that long.

I've had them as big as 20 feet. They never produced fruit. This was at the camp in GI.
