First time that's ever happened to me or my family. Leaving a major music festival Saturday night and headed home, my granddaughter and I went through the McDonald's Drive Thru about 10:15 pm. We were caught in the drive thru lane and had made our food order when a dark, 4 door car headed west fired a shot in our direction. I heard the gun go off and heard the bullet hit the McDonald's roof or guttering over our head. I could hear the bullet fragments rolling down the roof and gutter. Nothing I could do about it, but it has made me rethink and reconsider being trapped in a drive thru lane anywhere and not being able to escape. I'll leave enough room in front of me anywhere now to allow an escape path. I figure it was gang related, possibly. Sounded like a 9 mm, and we were sitting ducks. Never again.

I always leave space to maneuver no matter where I'm at - stoplights, stop signs, drive thru, bank, etc.

ETA: At the concealed carry class I recently took, the instructor said that if you can see the bottom of the tires of the car in front of you, you have enough room to maneuver to either side.

I drive a 4x4. If there isn't room, my gas pedal will make some.

Someone wasn't Lovin It.

It never ceases to amaze me how irresponsible people can be with firearms. How do you not care about discharging in public?

My neighbors moved down here from Connecticut two years ago. Good people and they moved down here to escape the crime, gang violence, and all the other reasons to escape big city living. Interestingly, they told me the same thing you advise. I guess living in an area that does not see this type of criminal activity, I became complacent. Never again. Thanks!

Couldn't shoot back, Chad. Shooter was traveling fast and was out of sight within three seconds. And there were innocent bystanders between us. I don't think for a minute the shooter was targeting me and my granddaughter. We were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Shooter was targeting somebody or something, though.

No, I wasn't. I know you better than that and you know me. There are some lurkers who will take you seriously, though. My reply was for them, actually.

I got a little chuckle out of this until I realized you weren't in Louisiana.

Wow. My wife was held up at gunpoint Saturday night in front of an ice cream shop. Things are getting crazy.

BTW, no concealed weapon would have helped the situation. A guy opened her car door, pointed a gun at her head and walked away with her purse and phone. If she'd had her gun in the purse, he'd have gotten that too. The encounter was over in about 15 seconds.

Glad everyone was safe with all the stupidity. People like that need to be removed from the gene pool. I hate using drive throughs. I always get out and walk in if it's an option.
