Haha the hate invigorates me. Big men with bigger egos and logical fallacies abound. Baws out here killing snakes because they need peace of mind in the woods. Watch where you step and stop tromping through the woods like a buffoon and them lil legless creatures won't be so scary. You know half of yall walking down shooting lanes wider than i10 and climbing into stands 30 feet in the air anyway.

Logical fallacies? I'm talking real world a-hole. 14 years ago I brought my wife's nephew and his 10 year old son to my deer lease. His son was hit in the leg by a copperhead. I wish I still had the pics of that boys leg. They had to make incisions in his leg to relieve the pressure from the swelling. He suffered for weeks with that leg. If one of the other hunters had told us he saw a copperhead and let it live, he would have been run off the lease by the guys that also brought young hunters to the woods. Regardless of whether or not we thought it could have been the same snake or not. I felt so bad it ruined my entire hunting season. The only fallacy here is that you think you're a "big man" for defending a venomous snake. Real men will understand this concept.

To the posters saying killing snakes for no reason and to the others saying at least rattlers alert you before striking unlike cottonmouths..

Last week I watched a Louisiana outdoor show featuring Captain Eric Dumas. Apparently he also is a licensed nuisance animal remover. While out at the old 6 flags in NO changing rattlers he commented that rattle snakes around here no longer rattle as an alert. He states with the increase hog population rattle snakes are rattling less or not at all when alerted to something nearby. Hogs apparently love snakes and snakes have started to adapt to avoid being prey to hogs.

Forgot to add, they were coming out of the stand at dark thirty. You ever try to spot a copperhead in half light. They blend in so well with the leaves and brush, it would take a 12 volt Q beam to spot them. Have you ever actually been in the woods? You sound like someone who has just read Outdoor Life and now you think you're a woodsman.

I used to hunt south Texas where rattlers are common. A lot of people don't realize that after a hard rain, if the snake gets really wet, the rattle doesn't rattle. The wet shell deadens the rattle and even though they are shaking that tail, there's very little to no sound.

It’s venomous- if it bights me, I will get sick - that’s enough justification

I see a snake - he gone, venomous, non-venomous- doesn’t matter. Not worth the risk.

But damn if I'm gonna step over a log while bloodtrailing a deer and get popped by one either.

Was crawling through a pine thicket following a blood trail last weekend when I came across a cainbreak. He quickly met my .357 mag. Not going to lie, scared the hell out of me.

I kill every cottonmouth I see. Anywhere I see it. I do the same with hogs.

In addition, any venomous snake within a couple hundred yards of my home will die. Non venomous I leave alone.
