Just got a 2006 Silveraydo and the headlights are dull as shite.
Is there a preferred brand/model of bulb to get for replacement?

how clouded are the plastic lenses?
I have the same truck and was thinking about replacing the lenses on mine...but I can't really say they are dim.

It looks like only the bottom lenses are clouded up. Found a set of for replacements for about $150.

I think mine are sylvania. Bright as shite

Mid-grade Sylvania's are plenty bright, nothing will help if your headlights are cloudy.

I've got the Sylvania silverstar, and they are pretty Damn good. Go up to the ultras if you want a little better.
But yeah if your lens are jacked no bulb is going to make a big difference. I used one of the little buffer kits and it improved it greatly. Not perfect, but not bad.

Everyone is right that if you have oxidized headlight lenses, nothing will make them "brighter" since the lens disperses the light too much.
But please don't do these two things:
1. Put in plug-and-play LEDs. They cause too much glare and do not throw the light down the road properly.
2. Put in plug-and-play HIDs. These will scatter tons of light and cause a massive amount of glare for passing motorists. In simpler terms, it will appear as though your high beams are always on, blinding people and causing a dangerous condition for oncoming drivers.
If you want to upgrade your headlight output using halogen bulbs, getting a new set of headlight housings with a fresh set of bulbs should do it. More light will pass through a brand new, not clouded lens.
If you want to really upgrade your headlights, considerdoing a projector retrofit. Your headlights will have more width, more intensity, and will be safer for oncoming traffic. Most higher trim packages and luxury cars come standard with HID or LED projectors that are made to illuminate the road while also not blinding oncoming drivers. Here's a single headlight projector output (notice the sharp cutoff and amazing width):
And here's a thread I did about my own retrofit on my truck:

I wish they would go back to glass headlamps. We pay a fortune for a truck and in two years the cheap arse plastic lenses are scratched and look like crap.

If you care for your plastic lenses and keep them clean they will cloud up pretty slowly.
I rather headlights not be glass since glass doesn't handle road debris as well. A lot of manufacturers still have glass fog lights and they get broken by rocks constantly.

Found that site when I had my '99 Z71. Always seemed to need something(light housings, door hinges, electric locks, window regulators, etc). Best prices I could find and the parts always fit and worked.
