For a beginner, again don't worry about leadING the target.
The easiest things to focus on in the beginning is proper shouldering of the gun....remember you bring the gun up to your cheek not your cheek down to the gun.
And to follow through

You are over thinking it as well

Remember, to relax and be smooth. Smooth is fast and accurate.
Don't worry about leading and don't aim. You point the shotgun and swing through the target. You want to pull the trigger as the front sight crosses the pigeon.
Be aggessive. You will find that almost every time as soon as you shoulder the gun you will be on the clay and if you fire then you will have good results.
For doubles, same idea just swing through the target and fire as the front sight crosses the clay.
A common mistake is shooters pass the pigeon and then try to get back on target by aiming.
Be aggressive and don't worry about shooting too fast just remember to always follow through.

And you expected different?
On this board?
We need to have another OB skeet shoot so I can shame Nico again. I think I'm the only one left posting who was there for that

If I was a betting man I would say that 34 and I shoot more sporting clays events than anyone on the board. We don't think about any of that; shoot our duck guns (SBEII and Beretta) and whip krieghoffs and merkels every time. It's the Indian. Not the arrow.

Thanks for the tips. I'll update with my results tomorrow, unless I really sucked at it.

WIN! WIN! WIN!

My advice was also aimed (no pun intended) at someone who isn't equipped with multiple chokes. I think what I suggested is pretty valid for a game where target presentations will range from 5 yards to 50 yards.

It's the annual API fundraiser.

What did you shoot? Always thought I was a decent shot but I was humbled with my first sporting clays outing, I shot in the upper 30's, happy to say it has gotten much better since

At least it's not raining with 30 knot winds.
And don't forget -- all new shooters, if it's their very first tournament, get 25 birds added to their score.
If the squad you're shooting with claims they never heard of this rule, tell them ignorance is no excuse -- you want your "mulligan" targets.

I managed 22 and that wasn't last place. The high score was 82. Apparently we used a corse set up for a huge tournament. Our guide got to the third station and was like "I don't who the frick designed these, but they can go to hell, sadistic bastards"
Posted on 4/22/16 at 7:12 am to ZacAttack
Well, good deal. I say that because of the hundred guys there, I was the only one with a pump.

Damn, must've had a lot of right to left crossing hauling arse. That is typically the toughest shot for right hand shooters.
