I'll have both soon

The VP9 was always in front overall because the sights shite on the PPQ's

I said the PPQ's trigger was better

I don't like this argument because it assumes all other guns will have shite reliability.

For the most part, we won't be jumping out of planes, deep sea diving, mud sliding, or freezing our handguns that we use for defense. All the torture tests show a well-built, reliable handgun. But those things don't translate to real-world experience for the average civilian.

I have never seen my M&P have a feeding malfunction of any kind. If it did, it was my fault as a handloader. It's been fired over 8000 times. That's plenty reliable for the average person.

Yes, Glocks have a reputation for being extremely reliable but they are not the only game in town.

Just my two pennies...

Glock 19 potentially saved my life on a very scary occasion so I'm kinda partial to Glock as you guys can understand.

Springfield XDM 9mm 4.5 barrel is a smooth shootin SOB. Purchased one about a year ago and love it. I would highly recommend.

I don't mean it in that way... I've just shot Glocks enough to fully trust them.

While I haven't either, my very close friend is a Texas Trooper and and academy was the first one to be issued the M&P 9mm's. They had so many issues with them they decided after a week of training on them to switch back to sigs.

M&P 9mm's

I heard the early ones had a non standard twist rate that caused some serious key holing. Even though I've never seen it, can't blame anyone for not wanting that...

It was also built around the 40 S&W cartridge instead of having to be upsized to it. So it's most reliable platform is in 40.

But experience trumps hearsay all day. It's nice that we all have so many choices in today's market to find the perfect fit.

Your video was great btw. I totally agree about the opening on the slide of the 5.25. The 4.5 doesn't have that. I'm still leaning XMD despite your dislike of the grip safety though. You didn't have many gripes outside of those two things. And while the 4.5 sight is good, it's not fiber optic.

Thanks for the info and help, bapple.

The XDM has the grip safety

Which is the reason not to buy it, IMHO.

Sig P226 is even more, but it is the finest full-size 9mm service pistol on the market, again,IMHO.

I'm a Sig guy (and a Glock owner, BTW) and this is the only serious knock on Glocks.

Once they fixed the KABOOM! issue - they've been right as rain.

The ergos take some getting used to. I still favor my Sigs because I shoot them so well with little effort. However, if someone said, "We'll buy all of it, ammo, magazines, whatever, you just have to use all Glocks, all the time" - I'd shrug and say, "Twist my arm, but okay."

My main gripes were the non-captured recoil spring, the grip having no taper, and the grip safety in general.

Besides that, the sights on that one are awesome and the gun is quite shootable.

I'm sure you'd be happy with one.

but this is such a bogus complaint.

Respectfully, it is another point of failure.

I don't want to have to think about anything but, sight picture, breath control, press the trigger (and not even much thinking about that).

I don't want to frick around with a manual safety, grip safety, punching a bunch of numbers, operating a wrench or doing any math (other than counting rounds I have left).

Just my $0.02 having been sent into harm's way by our wise DoD with a weapon that has:

1. Slide-mounted safety that goes the wrong way, which sucks arse and,

2. Well, that's about it.

I don't like 'em. Frame safeties, slide safeties or grip safeties.

That's my safety.

Good points, Ace. Noted. I'm going to the range tomorrow to test out the Glock 19 and XDM. We'll see which one I like best. If the XDM feels right, I'll go with it even with the grip safety which I've heard positives and negatives about. Thanks.

When some of the top trainers/guys that know way more than me decide Glock's aren't the way to go, I'll start valuing some of theses posters opinions more... I rarely bash other guns, but because I have Glock in my user name I suddenly don't have a valid opinion.

but I've seen quite a few Glocks with FTE issues. I assume I see more Glock problems because they're much more of them out in the public.

Most causes of FTE with any pistols are lack of oil, and cheap ammo.
