This is my first handgun. 9 mm. 4.5" barrel.

The XDM has the grip safety and 19 round magazine. I'm definitely leaning that way, but it's a few more dollars.

TIA

But it's really a toss-up. Whatever feels best to you will suit you just fine.

The XDm also comes with a ton of stuff. It comes with a paddle holster, a mag holster, and 3 magazine (IIRC). It brings a lot to the table.

Just don't let this hinge on your decision. It's a very passive safety device in that it gets depressed anytime you grab the gun.

But, the grip safety must be depressed to retract the slide. That fact I HATE!

Here's my review of the XDm 5.25 FWIW. It's got the same frame as the 4.5" but has a much longer slide.

Love my 40 cal XDm. It's my favorite gun in my collection. You can't go wrong with it IMO.

what? I sell guns just my opinion. glock's grip angle makes me want to shoot through the ceiling on an instinctive point

i value trigger and ergonomics over everything else. that's my hierarchy. for stock triggers, the VP9 and PPQ smoke everything else in the same class. they also are the most comfortable.

I still carry a glock, and I still train with one all the time for a change of pace. I get em for like $300 so I dont care if it gets stolen out of my truck

If you want to stay in that $500 area, go M&P and get an apex trigger

if you're in BR, come to Bowie Outfitters and ill get you set up. need to play with all of em before you decide

People love to hate on Glock because it's not the new shiny gun. They are a very reliable firearm that many people like.

I did a thread on this with pics. I'm not the biggest Springfield fan, but this is such a bogus complaint. There is virtually no way to generate enough trigger pressure with gripping the gun in a way that engages the grip safety. Find a firable grip position that doesn't engage the safety and post a pic

I picked up a HK P30 last weekend for another gun to carry. Really pleased with it.

He has a glock and loves it. Still has his 40. But he likes the passive safety on the xdm, too.

Well over half of police departments nationwide carry Glocks so that probably has something to do with it. I don't know why a lot of posters on this site hate on them...Some people don't like the grip angle or ergonomics but that's easily over come through training... I'll take reliability over those 2 any day.
