It's a flying insect that is not a mosquito. Plus, it doesn't eat mosquitos.

I was dropping off some ducks to be cleaned at a place near Welsh years ago that also did guided hunts. There was some city slicker with his young son there looking at the ducks they had killed. The little boy points to some Spoon bill drakes and says, "What kind of duck is that dad?" The guy says, "Those are mallards, see the green heads." I busted out laughing.

Hell no.

ID threads are the best. Especially when the picture is a little blurry and poor lighting.

If miss ID'ing something pisses off some of y'all, I would really hate to see if your sky was falling on y'all.

It's no big deal. The truth comes out sooner or later.

Didn't mean common names. If someone calls a spoonbill a mallard, that is what I am talking about. Snakes are one thing. A completely stupid arse misID like a mallard/spoonbill is another.

Things like oddball common names don't bug me (locust, pin oak, mosquito hawk for a few examples). My stupid college buddies calling every songbird a "chi-chi bird"...in an ornithology class.

Can't take the country out of every wildlifer I suppose.

I typically track them down and threaten them with my Rambo knife.
