I was sitting in my backyard late yesterday and noticed a flying squirrel come flying/gliding in. It landed on a tree close to me.

It was stretched out and just stayed there for 5-10 minutes. Then started jumping upwards and went into a nest in the top of the tree.

I haven't seen one of these in ages! What about you?

One of our cats brought one to the house a few years ago. Didn't look hurt other than scared to death. Took it back out to the woods and put it in a tree.

Every once in a while I'll run one out of a hollow tree or something when I'm trying to flush squirrels for my hawk. Cool little guys.

Use a thick leather glove to handle them at first. After they stop biting that your good to go. Had 1 growing up. He was always in my pocket. He'd come to school and everywhere with me.

I think they are nocturnal animals. I have plenty at my house I can sit by a fire at night in my yard and they will fly all around my yard. They make a peep/screeching noise at night I can hear them anytime I go outside

My mouse eater killed two of them a few months ago in one week. Both were killed at night. Looked it up and didn't realize they are nocturnal.

Been battling those things for years at the camp. Chew their way in through the roof and gable vents. Get in the attic and can't find their way out. They have chewed through the drywall ceiling to get out the attic. Wife found a dead one under a pillow on the bed She wasn't too happy.

They are nocturnal. I haven't seen one in a few years but if I were to go out in the woods right now I'd be able to hear their chirps.

I have seen them - north of Pensacola. Used to have them for pets as a kid. They are really cool.

My grandfather has several that live in a tree right by his house. I've seen as many as 5 out there in one night. I love listening to their little chirp

we have a nest of them in the back yard. The cat will catch a few babies every spring and bring them in the garage. We take them from her and take them down to a wildlife rescue center. Supposedly they are fairly rare in our area. I have video somewhere of one fighting with a woodpecker over a nesting hole here in the yard.

Same here, I used to live in a house on a riverbank, with Redwood siding.......apparently they love the stuff.

Really cool little critters.

Back in college I was sitting in a computer lab and out of the corner of my eye I saw movement in the shirt pocket of the guy next to me. I look over and it starts moving again. I asked him wtf was that? He said "oh thats just rocket, my flying squirrel" nonchalantly like that shite is common. He opened his pocket and I'll be damned, a flying squirrel shoots out, runs up his shoulder and just perches up.

Friends had a regular old cat/gray squirrel they found as a baby. Not only did it bite it climbed up arms like a tree. Scratched the piss out of me to sit on my shoulder.

Same buddy and I shot a flying squirrel once. Was running in tree to nest. We felt bad when we picked it up and saw what it was. Cool little frickers.

When I was about 12 ish a neighbor cut down a tree in his yard and it had a nest in it. Never saw the mother, but one of the babies was alive. Named him Rocky and tried to nurse him, but he only lived a few days. I've never even seen an adult one before.
