Obviously some training on how to rack a slide must be shown but I've seen some tiny women able to rack the slide on all of my full sized 9mm guns. And if that's the only issue, I would suggest a full sized 357 over a tiny 38 by a country mile.

I think his comments about the first chamber empty is not to prevent AD from the FP hitting the primer but to prevent AD from accidental trigger pull (would have to fully pull it twice to make it go bang.)

That's absolutely ridiculous then. If the person is planning on carrying concealed and has not practiced enough to have the 3rd rule of gun safety built into memory, then that individual should not be carrying a firearm.

Practice, practice, practice and overcompensation isn't needed.

I would think she has the gun for protection, not plinking.
If she wants to shoot for fun she should get a Walther P-22.

I don't see what relevance this has to anything I suggested. A gun that is easier to plink with is easier to shoot, period, which is why I suggested the full sized revolver. If she plans to carry it, that makes sense because it's small. But for general defense, a full sized gun is always easier to shoot.

Stop pulling a strawman here. I never once suggested she buy a 22. I just think she would be much better with a full sized revolver or a full sized semi automatic than a tiny snub 38. If she plans on carrying it, that's fine.

I generally think someone buying a carry gun as a first gun is not a good starting point. That's the entire point I'm trying to get across here.

Only thing you got across is, you seem like a " know it all, only I can be right " kind of guy.

You buy what you are more comfortable with.

To be fair, Bapple is absolutely right. You are beyond dumb if you carry with a cylinder or chamber empty. Also, a revolver doesn't hold many rounds to begin with and you suggest limiting by one more? That is stupid.

I offer instruction to anyone, I don't discriminate.

Feel free to email me too if you'd like to get some instruction.

When you can't rebut the information, just attempt to insult the person who is presenting it. That's the best way to win an argument.

But yes, we can agree to disagree.

Hell, I think the tiny gun phenomenon is downright scary...even for people who are comfortable with handguns. They're just too unpleasant to shoot to ever get good with them. I think the OPs gun is a bit safer for me since there's no sharp-arse slide coming back to slice her hand with. Grown arse men with pocket pistols who weren't great shots to begin with aren't going to hit shite with those little things, at least not what they're aiming at. Big hands and a small semi are a dangerous combination as well, better get that thumb out of the way...every damn time. I just hope I'm not around when some pocket pistol carrier tries to be a hero.

Don't get me wrong, I've seen people be absolutely accurate with a small gun, but bapple's point was that they likely didn't get that way by starting out on that platform.

Go figure, one decent looking gal shows up around here and you run her off with a "private lessons" offer.

At least wait until she posts a pic before you ask her out on a date.

No clue what she looks like. Just trying to prevent a new shooter from making bad decisions.

Surreeeeeeeee

All BS aside though, the snubbie .38's have a place and the LCR is probably the best one out there. The trigger is incredible and I really wish they would incorporate it into a steel framed 4" 6 shot .357 designed for concealed carry (fixed sights, bobbed hammer, chamfered cylinder, etc). I'd buy one tomorrow. The shitty mile long 30 pound double action pull of most revolvers is their main drawback IMO, which the LCR addresses nicely.

I personally think it's a much better choice for a woman than a small semi auto unless she's going to put in substantial trigger time.

hard to carry

I agree but some hesitate on the idea of revolvers not having a safety. Some believe it makes the gun safer for kids to be around.

I don't like the method as noted previously
quote:

On the down side there is no safety. So, if you have small children are you are ever around children you need to secure the firearm at all times. Some people choose to carry revolvers with the first firing chamber empty as a form of safety. This requires a double trigger pull in time of need and I do not like this method. When you are carrying it you need to be sure that the trigger is protected from accidental pressure. Thus, any holster you use should fully cover the trigger and trigger guard. If the weapon is in your purse or bag, it should be in a separate quickly accessible pouch with NOTHING else in the pouch (lipstick, tampon, change, pen or pencil) that may get inside of the trigger guard or cause you to reach into that pouch for any other purpose than grasping the gun.

Agreed. Any gimmicky way to carry a gun or load a gun is more likely to be forgotten if pulled out under stress.
