Didn't realize this effort was going on. Wonder if they'll ever get the fishery back to the trophy status it once held.

And with the current state of cell phone videos, insta, etc., I also look forward to the inevitably increased number, and HD recorded, baw fights between fishing baw, dock owner baw, and 18-year old daddy-owned $100k wakeboard boat baw.

My opinion: If they really want this lake to be anything like it was, they need to seriously regulate fishing, or the keeping of fish, for the next several years. Somehow, they've got to introduce some structure in the lake. I haven't seen the plans for dredging, but it seems like dredging some underwater channels would help.

It sure would be nice if "watersports" could be regulated to certain times of the day, also.

How does the drawdown reduce sediment buildup? Has new sediment been eliminated and the drawdown allows for dredging?

I'm not really clear on this either. They may just be doing what the can to stop any more new sediment from flowing in. They really didn't describe a plan that would get rid of what's already there...

This is a total shot in the dark, but exposure to oxygen may help break it down faster and allow it to compact into harder bottom.

lake is low as hell right now.. If you threw in bodies off your dock or off the bank, they're visible. I also heard part of the drawdown is to encourage grass to grow.

seems an odd time to try and grow grass, but whatever they think will work...

It's the dumping ground for the lower part of the parish. Thank a farmer.

Do you know Ike or have you spent any time around him? He's one of the most accessible and down to earth of all the Elite Anglers on the tour and he's great with all the kids as well.

He and Becky(wife) are very much involved with kids charities and are great parents. He's enthusiastic but far from a douche.

Why would I need to when he's videoed as much as he is?

This is spot on. I hated Ike until he approached me at the dock one day in mizzouri and started up a conversation. I was completely shocked at how he is in real life and away from camera.

The taking of sides is a very good character indicator. Ike fans tend to be a little NASCARish. No offense NASCARFan

The draw down is supposed to help grass grow but to me it seems like the wrong time of year for that to happen, with all of the watersports i dont ever see this lake being good again. Yes since the previous draw down the fishing has gotten a little better but it is aggravating to fish with all the drunks wakeboarding and joy riding all day

It will also begin another large-scale dredging project on the north end of False River to remove decades of sediment build-up that has mostly contributed to the lake's decline

The drawdowns help sunlight reach the lake's bottom which, in turn, helps dissolve the heavy build-up of sediment beneath the water
hmmm

Also in the fall, the parish will begin dredging the north end of the lake to speed up the restoration process.

A similar process was already done on the south end with engineers using the sediment that was removed from the lake's bottom to build a 16.5-acre containment dike island.

the draw down allows oxygen to come into contact with the suspending organic layer. It this then allows for the decay of said organic layer. This is the reason draw downs are smelly.

BTW the LSU Lakes needs to be drained to allow for it to decay is organic layer. I wonder how that study has come along.

Perhaps because a lot of people who appear on camera have an entirely different persona off camera which is much more representative of their who they are in real life.

You should make a point to go to an Elite tournament or somewhere he's appearing, make a point of meeting him and talking with him and see how he interacts with you and others, especially the kids. I'm far from a fan boy, or being NASCARish. In my business we get to know the real person as much off the water as on. He's most certainly no douche.
