Do you have to have commercial insurance on them? Sealed a deal on a 09 king ranch and Aaa insurance states that I have to have commercial insurance on the damn thing. Checking now to see how bad Allstate and State Farm will screw me...

No. Over a certain weight you may need a cdl.

They just want more money from you.

I think over 1 ton you need a cdl. Not completely sure though. We have a f450 as a company rig so we obviously have commercial insurance. So I'm not much help here.

Our 450 is a complete turd though.

I think it goes by the GCVW of the vehicle. I was told that to buy a F-350 you need a class A drivers license since you can exceed 26k lbs with the right trailer combination. Stay under that weight an you don't need it. So say someone like the OP purchases a F-450 and has a gooseneck cattle trailer and loads it up he would need a Class A CDL

Only if over the weight. And for personal farm use like hauling cows to market. I don't think he would need a cdl.

I may be way wrong. But until the vehicle actually exceeds the 28k or whatever your good.

Of course going on the dmv website and getting any answers would be a joke most likely.

Yes, insurance is more. When I was looking at trucks, a F350 was more than a F250 insurance-wise. Can't remember how much, but GEICO assumed that it would be used to pull heavy trailers and for work

No on the cdl to drive the truck, its no where near the limit by itself. Should not need commercial insurance if its being used for private use. Call safeco. Hard to beat their rates if you have decent record.

Only people that will insure me and not completely rape me on the price. Half of the companies won't insure me at all

Ended up with 450. It is a beast to say the least but has a remarkable turning radius. Allstate was the cheapest insurance which was surprising

Would love to help you out, I am an insurance agent in Louisiana and we represent 7 different auto carriers. DM me and I can get you a some really good rates. Not all companies list it as a commercial vechicle.
