I've decided this will be the next addition to my collection. I'm interested in the history and caliber details of the various models....

Ex - Anaconda was a later Colt offering, was only in .44 Mag, Cobra was the first Colt snake gun, etc.

As many books have been written on Colt's venerable history one would think that a volume would have been written on its revolvers, but I can't find anything on the topic.

I've always wanted a Python, supposed to be one of the finest production revolvers ever made.

There's not as much out there as you'd think, considering the "wow" factor of those guns.

They have cult-like followings. Expect to pay a premium. Like a $1500-$2000 premium for a Python.

This is what my introductory research has shown. I'd like a shooter quality Python in nickel. It doesn't have to be collection grade, but something that a man wouldn't be ashamed of if the feller beside you at the range walked over.

That's the model I'm after as well, but would be proud to own a Diamondback as well.

ETA - Looks like Diamondback is .38 & .22 only, so scratch that. I want a .357

The Python is widely considered the best double action revolver ever made. I don't have one but have shot a handful of them. They have an extremely smooth trigger pull.

I only know that they were produced from 1955 to 1999.

I personally want a Python in a 4 or 6inch barrel in stainless.

One of my closest friends had an Anaconda. That's another that I would love to own. It had a very short production run from 1990-1999.

Actually looks like Colt stopped making all revolvers in 1999 after financial troubles.

what was the original price on the Anacondas? I seem to recall contemplating buying one in the early 90's and the price being around $400?

I see where the Boa and Grizzly models are incredibly collectable based on their low production numbers. I'd really like a Python but sounds like I will wind up with a King Cobra based on availability and pricing.

Just understand the action and fit / finish are very different for the Python and King Cobra. The KC is cheaper for a reason.
