Oh yeah, I get it. It's one of those things that I just need to keep an eye out for because I'm not paying Gunbroker prices... I have a S&W 686 that probably is very similar quality wise to a King Cobra.

ha! A Python would have to be sanded by 30 grit paper to fall into that category!

good luck, buddy!

I'd just like mine back! (4" Python Nickel. Katrina claimed it)

Do you still own it? You know you could send it to the Colt Custom Shop for refinishing.

I stupidly trashed all the guns I lost after 3 different gunsmiths told me they were unsafe to shoot due to severe pitting and rust inside the barrels and breeches.

Wasn't exactly in the best frame of mind back then after losing my wife to leukemia then Katrina taking everything else 3 months later, ya know?

The Viper looks like a Trooper I "once" had.

CD I know those weapons had great sentimental value to you. I didn't realize you had gotten rid of them......

Good Lord there is some beauty in your last post. Also, regarding the viper comment from Quiet, I believe I read today a Viper was built on Trooper frame with a Python barrel.....

The Viper was built on the same alloy D-frame as the Cobra. The barrel was the same as used on the Police Positive of the era (the Viper was effectively an alloy Police Positive). It was not a popular seller which contributes to the high price today.

The MkIII Trooper action with the Python barrel installed was the Boa.

Boa, Viper.... Too damn similar! You see how a man could get confused?

Ranking the relative current market costs for these guns in standard variations (with #1 being the most expensive):

1 - Boa
2 - Viper
3 - Python
4 - Diamondback
5 - Anaconda
6 - King Cobra
7 - Cobra

Unique variations of each model will command more (ex: A rare Anaconda could be more valuable than a standard Python). However the guide above is a good rule of thumb.

Yeah, Colt didn't make it easy to keep things straight sometimes.

Like I posted earlier I covet a Python. It's versatility in regards to .357/.38 makes it more desirable to me than a Diamondback.

If you can only have one the Python is the gun to have.

I really like the Diamondback also. To me the gun feels great in the hand, maybe better than the Python to be honest. In some ways I think the DBack is a more attractive gun also.

The Python action however is superior to the Diamondback, as is the bluing. The guns looks similar in a big / little brother sort of way but the Python is the more finely crafted piece.
