It's really not worth a duck lease in central LA. I've had one for years and I believe this year will be the first year that I don't lease one. Killed too many ducks in the WMA's over the past few years.

I have some friends that do good in that area, mostly teal and spoonies but they'll kill 5-600 birds per blind

This is the reason I got out of duck hunting. In the span of 3 years I had 2 places leased out from under me and 1 was bought out from under me. Frustrating to put in all the work to develop an area and loose it because you start killing birds and some other jack arse finds out and leases it out from under you.

Not obc numbers, but 122 this year, around 100 last year. Twenty minutes from doorstep. No waders, no duck boat, just a 14ft john with a 25 hp. And ninety percent of em in the first split. So thats 3 ducks a day. I'm fine with public. If you are spending 3-6k on blinds/leases, its probably around 6-10k with gas, decoys, four wheelers etc. I believe it would be cheaper to book a couple of hunts each split from a guide servic and save some money and time. Hell call me I'll take you, with breakfast and fresh coffe during the hunt.

what do ya'll know about the hunting around Branch/ Churchpoint...rice fields?

There's no ducks.

I can 2nd this. I have extensively hunted SWLA for 10 years and with the exception of a couple of places I would not get a lease there. There are a couple of decent blinds up the road from there in Richard but good luck getting in them. Ive hunted from Welsh back to the basin and for the $ that you pay its just not worth it. Get a boat and hunt public and make 2-3 out of state trips. If you really want a lease you better go west at least as far as Grand Chenier, in the 10 plus years I have hunted the area I have only hunted three leases that I would pay for and there isnt anyone joining them anytime soon.

Not that I havent had awesome hunts at other places or that they dont kill but for the $ you pay its just not worth it to me.

How close are their fields to the shite plant in Rayne? Because that's the only way they are killing that many birds, unless they are some sort of anomaly that has killed 10x more birds than anyone anywhere near that area.

If I had the extra $ I would be all on that, most ducks ive seen in 5 years easy, greenheads thick as gnats.

But would it be worth it to hunt there for free besides putting in a little work ?

What gets me is the fact that LDW&F does so little to impound water on Delta WMAs. I grew up in Arkansas and that commission goes out of its way to make public watefowl hunting oppotunities a supreme effort.

Places like Macon Bayou, Big Lake WMA , Buckhorn have no water control structures or levees. Even Russell Sage and Ouachita could hold more water.

These places dont pay for themselves with bow hunters and squirrel hunters.
