Several years back, a bassmaster (just checked) tournament boat made a big wake going through to the back marsh. The boat made a similar wake coming back out and got a warning shot across the bow. Authorities got involved. It made the national news as an ESPN camera man on board.

I spent some time on that canal as a kid at my friends camp. Interesting place.

You should see the amount of people who ask/talk about hunting Venice from Georgia. I see it all the time on hunting forums here, first time Venice people talking about running down river and all over Venice in their surface drives. I wouldn't be surprised if the people
Involved in that incident were from there.

Edit, just re-read an article. That Canal was not the sam one JPBiscuit was reffering to. He was talking about the Camp Canal on the Southside of PAL. Most of those camps were built in the last 10 years.

Yeah, that Bassmaster's stuff went down on the camp canal (off Grand Pass). Glad that cat didn't get prosecuted. If they locked everyone up who fired their gun off their dock, they wouldn't have any camps down their.

I don't remember all the details but if it the bass hole went down that Canal pushing a wake I have no problem with someone bringing it to his attention that maybe he should be aware of others. A lot of those guys on that Canal have bateaus and small duckboats pulled up on the bank with their sterns in the water.

If the guy was trying to block access, f-him.

I would never hunt the MS or Atchafalaya without a full flotation hull.

I can only speak from my experience and say that the number of ducks in baptiste the last several years has noticeably declined.

I agree with this. I think surface drives has also affected pass a loutre WMA . South pass and parts of pass a loutre used to hold more ducks than they do now. I also notice they go out in the bays (and sit most of the day) earlier than they used to. I just think it doesn't give them a chance to rest when people are running through every pond scouting with their surface drives.

It's better to scout from a distance for ducks. It's something that is lost on a lot of these guys. The new 3pm regulation should help some down there. Wouldn't mind there being a sanctuary in the pass a loutre wma like they have on the delta.

Are you sure that area is a no wake zone? I seem to remember it not being a legal no wake zone.

surface drives motoring into the previously untouched areas have affected a lot of WMA's and leases around LA.

ducks need places where they ain't bothered.

first time they are bumped they move a little.. the second time they move a little further..

third time they leave the area.

Doesn't matter if it is a no wake zone or not, you shouldn't blow by any camp in a Canal that has boats tied up. Just because it's legal doesn't make it ok. It's called being a decent human being who respects others shite. A concept you seem to struggle with a lot.

I haven't seen any video, but if it was just a warning shot fired up in the air I really don't see a problem with it. If he peppered the boat with bird shot that is another story.

Don't be a silly bitch. You don't get to build a camp on a canal and then act like a child when people use the canal.

The reason I asked was because if there was no sign then I don't understand why people would expect everyone to slowdown for their camp. It's ridiculous.

many bass boats throw less of a wake at full speed than idle

We were there Thursday night thru Sunday. Killed limits everyday due to the strong arctic blast. Hammered them friday afternoon and saturday. Sunday morning was a little more difficult.

The areas of the WMA that we normally hunt did not have near the duck numbers as usual the last two years. Mainly due to the tropical storm that swiped Mexico in October 2015. It put about 2' of swell in the WMA and wiped out the duck potato and wild rice. We did okay last year. This year we have only been successful on strong cold fronts. Birds are holding more on Delta and Baptiste. We should learn other spots, but it is too easy to just ride to spots 10-15 minutes from the camp. We've become lazy hunters.

sometimes blowing by makes less wake than "slowing down"
