Dinosaur tooth was pure Hollywood

Bird on the windshield was pure Hollywood

The movie made it seem like it happened the night after the shift change. It was actually a few days later. I don't remember how many.

If the bop was activated when it should have been, much earlier than when it was, it would closed on normal pipe and functioned correctly. The failure to identify the kick and act accordingly was the most fatal blunder.

Worked on two of its sister rigs but not that particular one. Definitely sad stuff that should have been avoided.

I am not sure about the Dixie boats but the Robert was started in 2010 and the Jill in 2012.

Both the Robert and the Jill mobilized up the Atlantic Seaboard this past summer to assist installation of the nations first offshore wind turbines. Montco worked those babied like well-oiled machines.

Local assest from Weeks marine tried to perform the previous summer with moored barges, but couldn't get it done. They were replaced by Montco from the GOM. No problems.

Can those things ever generate enough power to negate the cost of installation?

I am asking out of ignorance-what could have been done? I only ask because the blind shear ram activated and it still happened.

They could have paid attention to the alarms telling them the mud pits were gaining. What I've been shown, they were offloading mud and they assumed the alarms were going off due to volumes changing from offloading that mud. But when you look at the charts, you can see the volume gains in the pits between all the offloading activity. They just weren't paying attention. Hell, at that point, they could have shut the bag around the pipe and had well control before they lost too much mud hydrostatic. But even if the needed to shear, they'd have had enough time to get proper shearable pipe across the BSRs. Instead, they didn't pay attention until the well was blowing out. This is all hindsight, but I've sat in safety meetings where they showed how a huge disaster was caused by some pretty easy misses.

And who built the Montco liftboats and the offshore wind turbines?

Weeks tried to install the jackets and bent two legs. GIF had to go to New Jersey and Rhode Island to repair them. That tuna steak with the orange glaze on top was on point.

were those the liftboats being taken out of fourchon on the semi-submersible last year? I saw some more heading out a few weeks ago.

My understanding is that they want to add @ 100 more windmills to that site. The first 5 are just to see how much electricity they can actually produce. Block Island runs all their power off of diesel. I believe the first 5 windmills are supposed to run around 15% of the energy that the island actually uses. I am not sure on that number though.

Just looked it up, and it is supposed to create 30-megawatts. You can look up Deepwater wind's Block island windfarm.

The Jill is sitting in the slip at GIF along with about 7 Seacor liftboats. I am not sure if they were brought up to Rhode Island or went on their own power. I thought only the Jill had went up there.
