My Dad is turning 60 and I'd like take him deep sea fishing. Any recommendations for charters along the gulf coast in Louisiana or Mississippi?

This doesn’t answer your question and you probably wouldn’t anyways but PSA: Don’t eat any pufferfish. It’s seems like every time I go deep sea fishing someone will catch a pufferfish and some dude will have to say the classic “Those are good eating”.

Contact Mexican Gulf out of Venice. They have a lodge as well.

What kind of trip are you looking for? quick snapper run and back at the marina drinking beer for lunch or all day fighting tuna/bottom fish/etc?

I don’t think trying to survive a week of Giardia is what he had in mind.

I think posters have already answered your question, but definitely go out of Venice. There’s no place with better offshore fishing.

yeah 60 makes a difference.

Is he good on his feet?
Sportfisher or center console?
Does he want a quick trip out to catch snapper, tuna, OR a longer trip out to catch tuna, wahoo, bills, etc?

Mexican Gulf day trips on Freeman boats...Fishing the LA Gulf coast is hard to beat. Out of LA, I'd take Mexican Gulf.

It is very hard to beat, especially when you get on fish, but pricey. The only way I can justify offshore these days is with a solid group of dudes that can help offset the anal reaming of $$$$$.

Y’all might want to give ballpark pricing for OP so he doesn’t get sticker shock.

Eddie Burger fish Venice or Scott King Super Strike. Driftset is also a good one with Martha Spencer and Justin Fayard. Lots of great captains and hard to beat Venice.

We take for granted that we have one of the premier blue water fishing destinations in the world in our backyard.

Most in Venice are going to run $3K per day for boat and fuel plus you gotta add a tip.

Went out of Venice with Peace in August, $2400 for charter, $635 to top off fuel tanks, $500 tip to deckhand. We only ran 14 miles out so fuel was low, also Peace runs two motors as opposed to many who are running quads. So I would say $3500 is the minimum down there.

Add in camp rental, food and drink, all in for a day offshore I am usually in for $4000. Usually fish with 6 people so about $675 per man.

This is why I'm trying to fine tune my mangrove techniques. To hell with running 3 hours.
