Coyote shot with shotgun with #6 shot (update)

Hey guys, I've done a ton of hiking the past few days and I've had no luck finding that really big coyote I shot the other morning. (He really was that big, I am not usually one to exaggerate and I had plenty of landmarks that he was standing close to that I was able to compare his size against)
So I got more curious as to what kind of damage/penetration that 20 gauge #6 shot can do, so I decided to get a little scientific ha ha.
I set up 6 layers of cardboard with 3 layers of cloth "rags" covering the side facing me. I shot this target from 40 yards (definitely further away than the coyote was). The results were surprising. Many pellets approximately 15 to 20 penetrated through all layers!
Just wanted to update you fellas.

This coyote shite is really messing with your head

Cardboard doesn't mimic bone. You're looking at a coyote with some infection from lead pellets.

He's gonna come after you in a few weeks....Oozing puss from the infected wound, drooling and foaming at the mouth, eyes red with rage.
Try to snap off a couple good pics before you die though.

You're going to need a stray dog for accurate testing.

I thumped one back in the day with a Muzzy 125 at 35 yds that I trailed for 150 yds and still never found. Perfect double lung shot. LITERALLY found pieces of lung 30-40 yds from the hit.
The alpha dogs know when they are hit hard and are just too stubborn to die quick. Tough cookies they are. Kinda got to admire them for that....

Dang you're right man, I should have gone to a shrink instead of starting 2 threads on the outdoor board about shooting a coyote with a shotgun.

other than a dead 'yote, the best 'yote is a wounded 'yote. hopefully he has a gut wound

I can't agree with this. Everything has to eat and coyotes are no different. Don't Make them suffer just because they eat game animals. Kill them but make it ethical.

Man frick a coyote. I have a spot on my place where I get multiple coyotes on camera all day, every day. 8am, noon, 2:30, doesn't matter. I have way too many and they all need to die before I lose a calf to them

I am not saying to not kill them. I am saying if you decide to kill them, be ethical and don't make them suffer. Kill them like you would any other game animals. Try and make sure you do it in one quick shot.

If my only option is inserting fish hooks in their eyes so they live the rest of their days blind and wandering around aimlessly searching for food until they starve then I'm ok with that too.
