they have always wanted the fish to spawn without being fished hence the yearly closure prior to rodeo

Can't say that I remember a closure last year before the rodeo

not really. everytime I have ventured out there it was full of people. I don't like people so I usually end up in the spillway

i was told by an old man out there that the golf course ponds have the biggest fish. you gotta fish them at daybreak before the course workers get there.

Of course.

How about spots I can bring my young son. Not quite ready for him to experience fishing illegal spots yet

It was cold and windy last year. Made the yak division kind of rough.

Hey, sorry nado and 87, I was cutting grass

You can catch bass pretty much anywhere there's water.. I'd avoid the front of CP at first until you get a little experience, I find there's more fish in the back of the park (north of I-610) but there are definitely still bass up front.. there's just a lot of pressure.. I have one particular spot that I catch decent size fish EVERY single time we go, but no 5+ pounders, but I can't give you that info just yet

The forest across the street from the soccer field is a great place to fish, if your son is walking, he'll love walking through the woods and there are tons of places to fish.. just pick a spot and try it for awhile, then move down.. you can also fish anywheres off of Marconi, I've caught tons of bass there too.. honestly there are tons of places to fish, and you can't go wrong. If you're like me you'll get hooked and start fishing it consistently lol. If you need more help figuring out the spots I'm talking about, let me know

City Park is one of Nola's hidden gems, I truly love spending time out there - maybe the outdoor board can meet up and have a beer at the rodeo

Hangover, what baits do you like to use?

Depends.. black and blue artificial worms when the water is unusually murky.. Spinnerbaits are always consistent when the weather isn't freezing

Lately I've been smoking them on a crankbait that dives at a 2-4 ft depth, the water is rarely deeper than that.. anything that has the bluegill color or chartreuse works great

Can/would you keep bass from there or is it catch and release?

I'm not a fan of fishing frogs unless it's real early in the morning or almost dark

But yea, they'll hit that too lol

That's a good start... can't go wrong with that. I forgot to mention the brush hogs in my other post, but those are nice too
