You are correct on their color but you could not be more wrong about them in the skin. It's been well described in this thread already - there is nothing to kill in the skin except inflammation and itch. If you have mites actually burrowing into your skin then congrats on having scabies (a type of mange). See your doctor on this.

I've been covered in chiggers 3-4 times and I've tried everything you can think of to stop the itch. Only thing that's worked for me is chigger x. You have to constantly apply it about every 30 minutes though.

you could not be more wrong about them in the skin

I never said they were in the skin (as embeded). I said look in the pore and you will see them, then plug them out/off (of the pore).

Could not be more inaccurate. You scratch them b/c there is a reaction in the skin in which multiple inflammatory mediators are released and cause the sensation of itch. In the vast majority of cases there are no chiggers to be found by the time you start feeling itchy.

Big misconception. They don't burrow into your skin like people think. The irritation and itching is caused by the caustic vomit they inject into the bite to keep the blood flowing.
