I'm planning to buy a 9mm this month for concealed carry. I've owned Glocks in the past (and still have a Glock 27) so I'm most likely to buy another Glock. The Glock 43 and 19 are on my short list as is the M&P Shield.

I know that I can get a better price through GunBroker (and have used them in the past) but I would prefer to buy locally even though it probably means a $50+ higher price plus sales tax. My fallback is Academy Sports, but does anyone recommend one or more of the local shops? Someone at work mentioned Guns-N-Ammo in Benton but I don't know anything about them. I also haven't frequented pawn shops recently so I'm out of the loop there too. I will almost certainly buy a Glock so it's a plus if the business has a Glock Armorer for when I change out the sights. I appreciate any insight you might have.

Cash In A Flash pawn shop on North Market is a certified Glock dealer. Their website boasts 2 Glock armorers on staff. I have no personal experience with them, so maybe someone else on the board can comment on their prices and service.

I bought mine at Teeco Safety. They are a Glock Blue Label dealer for LEOs and military. The price was $150+ cheaper than retail, but you have to qualify for the program.

last time i went, Discount Jewelry and Loan (by southpark mall) had pretty good prices...comparable to Academy anyway. I have bought anything there though.

Pretty good shop, usually have pretty good prices. It's right around the corner from my house so I stop by regularly.

Other options are Lorant's across from Shreve City or Davis Clothing & Outdoor at the corner of Swan Lake & Viking in Bossier.

Ron's on Old Minden Rd.

DavTac on E. Texas, although I've never set foot in the place only heard their ads.

Bought a bunch of Glocks from them. Usually have the best deals and we have always been pleased with them.

Ron's Guns is good as well.

Rons Guns off of Old Minden has good prices and its family owned. I bought a 308 there last year and they're great people.

Agreed. Been a while since I was in the store, but the last time I was there he was Glock dealer.

Pretty good shop

Maybe I just caught them on a bad day, but I was very disappointed in the customer service when I went to the store last year.

Thanks to everyone for the recommendations. I plan to start visiting several of the shops at lunch this week. Benton and Minden will have to wait until Saturday for sure.

I think the harder decision will be between the 43 and 19. My son-in-law has concealed a 23 for years so I know that the 19 isn't too large. If I get the 43 I'll add Taran +2 base pads so capacity will be 8+1 but that's still about half of what the 19 holds. If I tilt in that direction I'll also keep my eyes open for any police trade-ins (although I bet those would be 17s and 22s, not 19s). Of course choosing the 19 also means needing to get up to speed on Gen3 vs Gen4.

Thanks again. I'll update the thread once a purchase is made.

Michael's Mens' Store in Homer is pretty cool, too. That is if you want a drive.

Okay, done deal. I had some time off one afternoon and visited Cash In A Flash and Ron's Guns. I priced Guns N Ammo on line in anticipation of a Saturday visit to them. For good measure I also looked at Academy and Bass Pro prices on line.

At my first stop (Cash In A Flash) I handled the Glock 43, M&P Shield, and Ruger LC9s Pro. I much preferred the trigger on the Ruger. While at Ron's I also handled a Walther PPS and a Springfield XDS. My first choice was still the Ruger. Prices ranged from $380 (Academy) to $420 (Bass Pro).

On Saturday I planned to visit some more of the stores mentioned but my wife and I first stopped by the Gun Show in Bossier City. Pricing wasn't any better there until we came to the tables for Waggenspack Guns (out of Gonzales). They had the LC9s (no Pro models) for $330 ("gun show special") as they had "bought too many of them." Uh, couldn't pass that up so I bought it. Unlike the Pro version it has a safety but I'll just keep that off. I'm also not nuts about the magazine disconnect feature but c'est la vie.

Thanks again to everyone for the many suggestions of stores to visit. I see a full size 9mm in my future so I'll keep those places in mind.

Guns should not have this. You can disable it iirc. Do that.
