Will some of the individual stores be closed? There are locations where these two stores exist relatively close to each other. Will they carry the same merchandise? Will product prices decrease? Will merchandise prices for the same product be the same? Will this merger be a good thing for us? Lots of questions. Just curious. LINK

How would eliminating competition cause prices to go down?

I have no idea. Just questions at this point. Will eliminating competition cause their prices to go up? Have no idea about that, either.

The stores carry 2 different brands of hunting clothing. It will be interesting to see how the new mix of merchandise happens

This is NOT good for outdoorsmen.

More competition is a good thing, not less.

I don't care too much about cabelas. I go there because it's close. Gonzales needs an Academy NOW. People started spreading the rumors a couple months ago. Where's my damn Academy.

Cabelas brand clothing, footwear and outdoor gear will become shite. This is not a good thing at all.

Yes I am. Competition is what keeps prices in check. Do you even free market?

My bad, I misread your post as suggesting the merger would lower prices.

Everything BP has touched has had a drop in quality. BP gun people are clueless, red head anything is crap. Fishing stuff is ok.
Buy your cabelas brand clothing now

Interesting. In Tulsa not too awfully far from where I reside, a new Cabela's was recently opened. It didn't really affect the Bass Pro Shops over in Broken Arrow, but added some more diversity for people shopping for more hunting-oriented merchandise.

Personally, I always shopped Bass Pro as I am primarily a fisherman and they tend to carry a broader selection of stuff geared for the serious fisherman. It will be interesting to see if individual Bass Pro locations expand their size to accommodate the slightly more hunting-oriented acquisition.

I know Academy and Gander Mountain are probably thinking 'well, shite". But I still love the handgun variety at our Gander Mountain in Jenks. I don't know if it's similar everywhere, but the GM I shop at has a really solid selection of high-end pistols.

I'm curious about their business plan. Why did they even want to merge? Will they close up some stores? Will their product lines be identical for a lot of their stuff? Will the prices go up or down or stay the same? And will quality deteriorate as some folks here have predicted? Never have been inside a GM store. Have no idea where the closest one to me is located.
