That's the section we did and it was fantastic. I'd like to go again soon.

Ponca to Pruitt is the best run on the river if there's enough water and you can handle a canoe. Go further east if water and skill are an issue. I've been on it a dozen times and would love to do more. Good times as a young fool...good times with the Boy Scouts later in life.

Do the Ponca to Pruitt float. The best thing to do is to take a 3 day trip with a 2 day canoe trip. Set up camp at Kyle's Landing (best scenery in the Ozarks, right on the river).

Start at Ponca, take out at Kyle's for the night, and float to Pruitt on the second leg. If you go through Lost Valley canoe in Ponca, they will shuttle your vehicle to the Pruitt takeout and have it waiting for you.

I'll second the lures that everyone else has recommended. Also, there are a TON of sunfish around any fallen timber or brush on the edges of the river. You would probably catch a thousand of em with a bobber and worm.

Here is a link to check the water level at Ponca. The water is perfect right now. Buffalo River water level

i was on the buffalo a few weeks ago when that huge storm came through that spawned all the tornado's southeast of where i was at. It was crazy, i could not steer my canoe the wind and rain was so bad, so we finnaly hid out in a cave along the river. after a couple hours we decided to hike up to hemed up hollow in the crazy storm and it was dangerous as shite but once we got there the water fall was insane. one of the cooler things i've seen. i didn't take my phone and i'm pissed, b/c it would have made awesome pics.

this pic does it zero justice, you can't tell how high it really is, and it comes down right in the middle of this carved out formation, so you can walk all around it. it's something like the tallest waterfall between the Appalachians and somewhere out west.
