Looking to make a yak/fishing/camping/drinking trip to the Buffalo River in AR.
Anyone ever been?
Any specific launch or get out points would you recommend in regard to fishing?
TIA OB, you guys are the best.
For conversation sake, here is the map I am looking at. LINK

We always used Wild Bills out of Yellville (don't know if they're still around). We put in at the highway 14 bridge and take out at Buffalo City on the White River. Awesome 3-4 day trip.

I love this area. Plan as late as you can make sure weather and water levels are good

Fish any there? Had any rapids or anything to worry about on that set?

Do you mean make final plans once the water and weather is right or do you mean late summer?

Final plans when you have a good idea water and weather are going to be good.

We use to go every year in April. It was cold some years but the river was pretty high and fun to ride. We would camp 2 nights and travel 15 to 25 miles depending on current. It was more less a drinking trip though. We used the canoe rental/motel place there in Jasper and they were always great to deal with.

Yes, we always had success with roadrunners and beetle spins. Small mouth bass, bream etc. The closer you get to the white river the better the chance you will have to catch some trout. Ultra light gear is the way to go. There are a few nice sets of rapids below rush's landing, nothing too bad to worry about. Make sure you have don't forget anything. There is no civilization for that roughly 25 miles.

Definitely call first and check the water level. Where you can yak is going to depend on rain if you try to upper end.

Went 2 years ago in June. Great trip. we used Wild Bill Outfitters. when we went the water was low. My canoe was dragging the bottom a good bit. but we were loaded down with beer. We also caught a few small perch and bass on beetle spins.
Best part is finding deep hole and swimmj g.

I went about 30 years ago. The water was low and it was hot and miserable.

we have gone every year for the last 3 years out of Wild Bill's. Always in late September to get the off season prices. Water is always been low in certain spots. Rapids depend on the water level. We launch from Spring Creek going to the Hwy. 14 bridge which is 4.5 miles which you don't have a time limit. There is good fishing spots on this route and deep swimming areas.

I've been three times and it was awesome each time except the first. My Dad and I went during spring break. On our first trip the water was so hight that we had to wait 2 days before they would let us on the river. On the third day there was icicles around the natrual springs on the sides of the mountains, and of course we flipped the canoe right after setting off. The water was freezing cold. I believe we floated from Ponca to Kyle's landing. Be sure to stop and hike up to Hemmed In Hollow.

Go as high as you can. Ponca.
Bring those very, very small crankbaits shaped like a crawfish and the smallest plastic crawworms you can find. The smallmouth kill those things.
