....bought enough gun? M1A Standard followed me home after dropping buy a local shop for no particular reason.

Didn't know they shipped with a reproduction of the TM.

Sucks to be California.

And CT.

Also comes with documentation concerning ammunition and a card that specs the headspace on this rifle. Wish more manufactures would card out this info.

I wonder how many criminals in California and Connecticut will adhere to that law?

Comparison with my Garand. The M1A is exactly 3/4" longer and a little over 3/4 lb lighter dry.

wood and steel is a beautiful thing
really love my mini 30 and every time I see an M1A on the rack I am tempted
keep going back and forth between that and a ruger gunsight scout
I don't have a bolt gun so that's where I'm leaning but that M1A is sweet

Have a 18" GSR, sweet little rifle and very accurate once you find a load it likes. If you get one, take it out of the stock, clean up the threads, put it back together and torque it carefully to spec. Mine really likes 168gr bullets but I have some 175gr OTM's to try out next time at the range. Might be tomorrow now.

That is my next gun purchase and it's also one from my bucket list.

That Garand looks nice too!

2 very awesome military weapons.

That Garand is almost exactly 60 years older than the M1A. Now I just have to find a nice M1 Carbine and a M1903A3 to complete the set.

do you have a scope on the scout mount on the gunsight or do you use irons? I prefer irons but my eyes are getting pretty bad as I get older

I use the irons but I still have plans to mount a scout-style scope on the factory rail section. They are excellent irons though and to 100 yards I can hit a 4" orange target dot. Might put in an order to XS for their rail system too, have one on my Marlin already.

Definitely my favorite combat-type rifle.

thanks for the info
this was the year for suppressors (and I snuck in an SKS) so next year I'll probably grab one

Have you tried 7.62 Nato through your GSR?

First box was PMC Bronze 308B and it ran it just fine. Actually did better than Federal XM80C as far as grouping (considerably more consistent velocity averages, even better than the Black Hills Match that day). PMC Bronze will be the first few mags in the M1A too. It doesn't have the NATO cross but is made to the same specs (there isn't enough difference in case weights between it and LC to make it worth sorting just for the head stamps) and isn't steel jacketed unlike XM80C.

Springfield was running a rebate for free M1A mags. You may want to look into it cause I believe extra mags are pretty pricey for that rifle.

Yeah, missed it by 15 days apparently too. About $165 worth of free stuff

Thanks for reminding me fooker.

Still have the M1A Loaded Coupon which discounts the 20rd mags from $54.95 to $37.50.
