I am yet to figure out how to keep fluoro from backlashing. I like fishing it but spend a lot of time digging out backlashes with fluoro for some reason.

Same happens with me. I love that it doesn't stretch as much, but dear lord I get a lot of backlashes.

I use mono for crankbaits , spinnerbaits , and a few top waters . Braid for frogs and punching and fluorocarbon any kind of worm or jig fishing . I also use fluoro on rogues because it sinks and makes the rogues kinda nose down a bit . Fluoro is one of many things that you get what you pay for . Buy cheap you're gonna have a red arse about what you get . IMO fluoro is just below braid as far as sensitivity and far and away better than mono . I've been using sunline sniper and shooter the past two years and have been very pleased . It does have some stretch but nothing like mono

The Big Lie!!!!! Seriously, fluoro sucks in every imaginable way.

i think i've skimmed that article before. i'll agree with you on some points. For the average weekend angler(not competing in tournaments) mono is probably the way to go because it's cheap and lasts longer. You have to take care of fluoro. Some knots are better than others, memory can be a problem (i use realmagic to fix this), and it can pop and look all frazzled just like in those pics. I retie a lot. If the line looks bad I change it. I've never had a problem casting any kind of line because i set the brakes and magnets correctly.

There's a couple reasons i'm sticking with fluoro and not going back to mono ever, and these are just my opinions and personal experiences. I got my arse kicked in guntersville a couple years ago by someone using fluoro while i was using mono...and just recently in bayou black, i was on the back of the boat throwing mono while my partner was throwing fluoro. Same bait and hook casting around a grass pocket, he put a limit in the boat quickly while i struggled to catch 1, he told me to try his rod and i caught 2 3lb fish in 3 casts...it was because i was using mono...i respooled and immediately put a limit in the boat

we have a nickname for mono...silly string

Mono with floro leaders for saltwater. Straight mono for freshwater. Have recently put braid on a couple reels but haven't fished with them enough to have a good opinion on it.

But I do know that if the wind blows like it did in Chauvin on Saturday, it makes no difference whatsoever. Fish just wont bite.

I just don't see why people don't use braid base - especially for saltwater. It doesn't break. That's enough for me. It eliminates one more possible variable that could cause my to lose a fish. Once you get used to the memory and used to casting it, you can throw it a mile.

I'm on the mono and braid train also. If you're worried about line stretch, go with a heavier #test. It'll stretch less.

Totally personal, but I do not enjoy the catch as much with braid.

Yeah I get that for sure. I think with bass it's almost unfair.

I don't think the line makes a difference personally. Some will say I'm nuts. Don't care, JMO.

I hate braid though. It sinks, cuts your hands up, sucks when it backlashes, you have to keep scissors handy cause you can't cut it with your teeth.
Only pro is it doesn't break. So, I only use it for stuff that I really don't want to break. Otherwise it's mono for me. frick fluoro too, most overrated line ever

I don't see how? If you're using the right mono you're not gonna be breaking off on fish (unless you're lazy about checking your line and retying when it get's chewed up)

Straight mono ftw. Fluoro sucks. I don't understand using fluoro for a leader for trout fishing. It has no give so you end up ripping the trouts lip.

Wow can't believe all the hate for flouro.

You need to use all 3 for different applications.

I use mono for spinner baits, top water and suspended jerk baits .
Braid for frogs only.
Flouro for worms, jigs, shaky head, and crank baits.

I do use yozuri hybrid line for some applications but seagaur for my flouro.

spec trout:
ive used straight braid and braid with fluro leader. no noticed difference in # or quality of fish. however, im usually under a cork.
snapper/ling:
braid with mono leader and no probs

Mono- chug bugs, spooks, and torpedos...
Flouro- Texas rig, wacky, shakyhead, cranks, spinners, jerk
Braid- punching, frogs, jigs, and buzzbaits... I use a big sharpie to color the last 5 feet closest to the bait to help with the visibility... I tie everything with a palomar knot except topwater a fisherman's knot works better for chugs and such... it helps the bait come towards your rod tip and this gives better movement.

I can assure you the leader makes a difference in clear water, whether it be salt or fresh. I use fluoro because that's what I have on hand, but if you go straight braid you won't have as many bites. In blue water if you don't think there's a difference between mono and fluoro you're crazy. It's not without it's problems, using it with downriggers and fighting big fish on it kills the line in a day. I'd respool daily during tourneys, then I got away from packing it on and went to 30' top shots. They all have there place.
