Saturday I took delivery of a 2016 model 400cc atv. Got it home- it had 9 miles on it though saleman said he had to take it out of the crate. Had 1/2 gallon of gas in it. I had to put 3 gallons in it in a 3.8 gallon tank to fill it when home. Kind of mad at this point but dealing with it. Ride 4 miles thru solid pasture.
Next day, check oil- its grey= water in oil. Air box is pristine. I change oil as an emergency- 13 miles on it at this point. Oil filter has corrosion on both endplates. Oil analysis pending at Blackstone
Talk to dealer- they want to "look at it". I was going to keep it until analysis comes back then get corporate involved. I paid full price, no breaks and a 400 buck prep fee like a sucker. Am i wrong to want a replacement atv?

Go get a Honda and call it a day.

I'd hold on to that thing until the analysis comes back. No telling what they can do to that thing in the shop if you bring it back.

Man, that would be disappointing as hell. I would give the dealership a chance to make it right, though. If they say they have fixed it and you find water in the oil again, then I would have to push them for a new machine.

Meantime, I would not go putting a hell of a lot of miles on it between now and then.

If you bought one of the chinese ATV's go get your money back if possible. You've seen the good side of it and it's all downhill from here.

Its a Honda rancher 420 4x4 with power steering.

The corrosion on the oil filter ends means to me it had been wet for a while.

Parked in a barn under a tarp right now.

Should've taken pics or noted the mileage when you bought it. Would you buy a brand new car with 5k miles on it?

Keep it until the OA comes back and you get a copy of directions from corporate on what to do. Call corporate now and let them know what's going on before going back to the dealership

Nine miles seems like a lot for a brand new, out of the crate ATV.

It is. They were lying. Its supposed to be less than 1 mile, less than 1 hour

Its got that stupid digital push button select for the readings and it defaults to fuel when started. It was already home by the time I saw it had 9 miles and I forget how many hours.

This was my first new anything. With used I'm lookin g for trouble and expecting it, but not new from dealer. Live and learn

No way would I accept a brand new machine that has water in the oil.

Absolutely not.

Damn. I know when I bought my rancher at friendly they checked all the fluids and lights before they'd let me put it in my truck. That filter aughta show up as a filter the dealership/manufacturer uses or something. I don't know dude. That's pretty shitty either way.

I agree. I would demand a new machine and hold them to it. I'd have my attorney make a call if they balked.

Oh snap I thought you were talking about a Chinese bike. I would get the dealership to fix it first. Of it still does it, get your money back or a new bike. That's what a warranty is for.

Did you buy it from a dealer in an area that flooded?

Yeah 9 miles is a few too many for a brand new bike. I def feel your pain. We bought a 20k dollar ranger 1000 and at 42 hours had to have the engine rebuilt. It was less than 3 months old, something about the air intake recall.

Tell us who's the dealer and the salesman is so we all know who to avoid.

man sorry to hear this. I had a 450 Honda blow a front end with 44 miles on it. the dealership was being difficult about fixing it but the corporate guys stepped in and replaced the entire front end.

Hell no......and tell them you want your $400 back since they didn't do their jobs the first time.

And you want a full fricking tank on the replacement.....and tell 'em we said so or else

As for getting a new one, 4 wheelers are registered vehicles with the state. The only way you will get a new one is if the dealership allowed their registrations to cross into February. Which they shouldn't.

If you have having issues with the bike, the dealership should do everything possible to make it right.

Honda would typically do an inspection and then rebuild at this point.

Yamaha would typically do an insoection, and then depending on the issue, they may buy the unit back and sell you a replacement.

As for the bike not coming with a full tank a fuel. That is logistically more difficult than you might think.

ETA, didn't see it was a 420. I don't know of any honda dealers than flooded.

Ktm, polaris, canam, suzuji, sure. But I don't know about the Hondas and yamaha.
