Book on Training Labs

Hey guys, I’m looking at getting a lab for the family. Does anyone have any books they recommend for training?
I put this in the outdoor board, because I do want to train it to hunt as well as just in general. I know I could send it off, but that kind of feels like it ruins part of the fun.

If the main goal of the pup is to be a family dog, get this one instead of water dog (same author)

I’m assuming that this is it you’re first dog to train.
Don’t set unachievable goals. Take it one step at a time don’t advance until the pup/dog is proficient in the previous steps.

Another vote for water dog. Trained my first lab when I was 13 using the book I had checked out of the library. Followed the book step by step and it worked. Used the process and bought the book for reference for me and trained 4 more labs. Some say his training methods are antiquated, but for a beginner I can definitely say they work.
On thing to remember is short training sessions. Follow up training with fun bumpers. Don’t train mad. And obedience is fundamental and required before you move to complicated drills (hand signals, forcefetch)

Robert Miller’s first book has worked without fail for me.

I had great luck with the book "Ten Minute Retriever". Just like the title says, if you can devote at least 10 minutes a day, you can train a decent hunting dog.

Already showed my support for the water dog.
Observation- 99% of the dogs I have seen that had destructive behavior or obedience problems, had one thing in common. Excess energy that leads to anxious energy.
Water Dog because it is specific to Labs and you are getting a lab. Every breed has a purpose, a job. Working that job into their life will lead to a happy, ready to please dog.
Remember, everything you purchase for the dog does not belong to the dog. It belongs to you, the alpha. You only let the dog use it.

Bill Hillmann has excellent training DVDs for puppies. Mike Lardy for the advanced stuff.

I used a combination of Water Dog and Milner's Positive Gun Dog training.
Talked to Milner a couple of times as well. He's isn't far from me.
