Anybody rented from him this year yet? IIRC, last year he had quite a few options, even some Hobie PA's. But I recently looked on the website and they've changed the lineup.

I was thinking of waking my 10 year old up early tomorrow and bringing him down there to fish out of a kayak. Weather is looking like it will cooperate.
What kayak would you recommend? I am short and fat (5'7", 210lbs) and my son is a lightweight (4', 50lbs) so Im thinking a single person kayak might work fine, but I'm not sure.

Thoughts?

He's still a person, how do you figure a one man will work - in your lap?

I bet he could sit on a paddle board like a boss.

Both stand and fish no problem. Until there's a problem, then you have a problem.

Quite a few single person kayaks have enough room for a small child. They can either sit in the recess behind the seat or at the bow of the yak.

The tandems that Bobby Lynns has are recreational kayaks and not rigged for fishing so the single, depending on size, may be the way to go.

Are you talking about Bobby Lynn's Marina in Leeville? They rent kayaks there?

That's the one, and yes they do.

Only downside to renting there is that you have to launch out of Bobby Lynn's, so you are limited in where you can fish. I recall in years past that they did have one kayak made for the surf that you could haul down to the beach; dunno if they still have that

Plenty of Reds and Specs in the marsh around Bobby Lynn's. Not sure how you would approach it with a kayak though, I've never fished out of one. I'd get a bucket of live cocahoes and a popping cork and have at it.

Launched my yak out of bobby Lynn's last Tuesday and we hooked up with trout and a couple of reds. However, bobby lynn's was closed. Not sure if they've reopened yet.

Well that would definitely put a damper on the whole trip!

I went ahead and called though, and while this is their off season, they said we could definitely get out there and rent a yak!

look pretty competitive to me. State park canoe rentals are $20-30, $50 for a 2 man kayak to fish the marsh isn't bad.

Still cheaper than launching a boat!

If he is, frick him. It's expensive compared to what I was used too. Although it doesn't matter now.

Eta....if he is I'm guessing he's bobby Lynn and was trying to advertise his business w/out paying chicken.

It's about $40 for a half day, $50 full day here but they outfit you, provide transportation...etc.
