Do these exist? In the boat market now.

Pontoon ... i dont like them but had one for 8 yrs and sold it for more than i pd for it. Ya its crazy covid times for leisure activity sales but there always is a market.
Any specialty item has a niche and may not hold up as well

Boston whaler. Maybe overpriced from the start though

I was offered more than I paid for my boat several times, it is a 2021 model, but I ordered off the 2020 price sheet. manufacture had 8% price increases for 2021 and 2022 and getting a discount is unheard of. I paid the the "dealer cost" for 2020... I know the dealer was still making money, he said he sold so many boats in 2019 he hit the top discount pricing for the year.

I looked at used boats, they were either almost what new cost, 15+ years old or beat to hell. 15 year old boats were selling for 75% of what a new boat cost, that is nuts. It got worse after I ordered my boat.

I have heard of people buying black jack bay boats. using them, and selling them for more then what they paid a year later. This was 2018.

Yes but you must maintain well. This means yearly engine maintenance, covered storage, etc...

Boston Whaler is a prime example

Bass cats retain theirs.

And wake/surf boats are stupid expensive. A few years ago, a hundred grand was a lot for a wake boat. Now, that’s small change. The new mastercraft is $260,000 plus. Those $75,000 to 100,000 from a few years ago are holding their value well.

Would covered storage mean a cover over the boat on a dock lift?

How tough is yearly engine maintenance?

I don’t own one but Pathfinders hold their value really well, especially for a mass produced boat.

Finally fished on Freeman in Port A earlier this Summer. Yes, it is absolutely one of the best offshore boats out there but the saying if it flies, floats, or fricks rent it maybe applies the most on a Freeman unless you have stupid money.

Had a Malibu Wakesetter for 11 yrs and put 800 hours on it. Sold it in less than a week for 70% of what I paid for it. I bought it off the lot from the dealer with minimal negotiating in 2009. It’s a completely different dynamic now.

Bought a 1996 Bayliner in 2007 for 4 grand. Sold it in 2019 for the same amount; probably could have asked more.

Yellowfins sell for more used than the new price. Got a couple year wait list though.

I find it interesting that of all the things you could ask about varying boats, this is the starting point of a boat selection conversation.

Family, fishing, fresh or salt water, water sports, large/small, glass/aluminum, $5k or $500k?

"Boats that hold their value" is a pretty broad place to start.

And I'm all about a good boat conversation. I have a bay boat on a lift, btw. It's a pain keeping it clean and available.
