I saw mention of this in the Alligator Swamp thread, and maybe I should've posted this on the OT. Let's see.

I've heard two differing opinions on the Bluff Road "ridge" and Highland Road.

Did the flood create these ridges, or were they man made? Or neither?

They are natural bluffs from before the levees were there. Basically, a natural levee. Just much much wider than the one we have now.

The flood in 27 put water over the bluff.

Neither. They been around a long time.

I've always thought that was the shoreline many many many years ago. Not really sure though.

I can't seem to find any satellite images from the '27 flood.

I'm sure thousands of years of flooding and earth shifting created the ridges

I think the answer you're looking for is alluvial flood plain. Parts of highland sit on top of this. No idea about bluff road.

I've heard the bluffs came from the dust bowls in the west blowing across the river hitting the cooler air above the river and settling on east banks.

Prairie Terrace. '27 flood did not go over that. Went all the way to the terrace near Opelousas.

Thanks for the CNN link, but no go.

I know O&W hadn't invented satellites at that time but I know I can find one where they do time lapses and just set it to 1927. Just can't find one of that area with the time lapse feature.

close but not quite correct. the hills in west feliciana were formed this way. correct name is "loess accumulation", wind blown deposits.

By bluffs I didn't mean the area of Thompson's Creek, he was talking specifically about Natchez. I don't remember if he said it was from there down to Highland area and Spanish Lake/Bluff Road or I just assumed.

highland road is the natural bluff of the miss river. the land on top of the river plain is pleistocene material. it has much more clay than the tunica hills hill material does which is majority silt. ill hold off on commenting about what natchez sits on as im not familiar with it.
