BGE, Primo or Kimado are all great. Just pick the one you like. Now that it's warming up I cook on my 3 or 4 nights a week.

I bought the Vision Grills version they sell at Sams. It's awesome. You can save some money over a BGE by buying a competitor.

I'm about to do the same. I'm looking at the Vision Pro-S series Home Depot sells. For 700 you get the grill, stand, cover, two side tables and double deck cooking grate. I also like how you can pick up just a section of the cooking grate to put in pecan etc.

Vision Pro S Series

ETA: The ceramic has a lifetime warranty like the BGE and the hardware is SS.

How do you like your vision. How hot can you get it and can you maintain 225 degrees. So far reviews are great, saying they can hold temps. for hours without touching it.

I currently have an XL BGE and previously has a Large Kamado Joe........both solid grills.

You can't go wrong with any of the name brands.....Kamado Joe, BGE, Primo........

Pricing is pretty fixed unless you get on that group buy with Wick........I would have but I actually won my BGE so it was free

I spent $300 on an Akorn. It does everything a BGE or KJ can do.

I bought mine from the local Sams in August for $449, they were starting to clearance them out.

I cook on it at least once a week, and do a brisket at least once a month. That is a 12 hour cook for me. I cook at about 225-250, and it holds fine till the charcoal thins out. I usually check it at about 6 hours and add some more coals. Would probably be fine if I loaded it up initially, but I want to wrap the meat around 6 hours anyway, so it works out.
Mine hold temp for as long as the coals hold up. It's fully ceramic, and works fine for me.

I have the vision from sams also. About a year old and still working great. Once you get the hang of ceramic, you can set the vents and forget about the grill for up to 8 hours and it will still be holding temp when you get back.

Im not trying to start a war here but I'm curious, if you can buy a dedicated smoker and a dedicated grill for less than the cost of the egg what is the big advantage? is it having the ability to do all that on one?

I'd get one for the sake of the extra space a smoker takes up. And if is holds heat as well as they say you only need to check 3-4 times a cook and not ever 30 min- hour.

Ceramics are very efficient at burning wood. They burn wood slowly. You can control the temps very well. You can burn a long time, many times 12+ hours. The air flow through the ceramics is slow due and therefore the meat stays moist.

A person very good with a grill might see limited improvement on cooking. The average person grilling will see a significantly better food coming off a ceramic. This is why they are so popular. In addition, they should last 20+ years...

I haven't tried except for flavor. I would assume so. They are basically a BGE. I've looked at BGE's in stores, and don't see any difference other than aesthetics.

i bought the Vision Classic B from SAMs a little over a year ago. I have had zero issues with it. I did end up buying the BGE platesetter (heat deflector) and the BGE cast iron grate. I have used the heck out of mine. After i bought one, 4 people i know bought them as well and all love them. I was able to get mine at SAMs for 499, but i think now you can only get the Vision Pro at Home Depot for 700. The vent system is a bit more high end than the Classic B from SAMS, but for 500, i still think i got the better deal. I have done ribs, pork butts, pizzas, chicken wings, steaks, burgers, you name it. I will put my vision up to anything. Their customer service is top notch as well.

I bought an Akorn 3 years ago for $269 off Amazon. It is still going strong but I do find that the dampers are very temperamental such that 1/8" on the top and bottom could be the difference between 225 and 450. Does the Vision or the better brands have the same issue?

I like the Akorn but I bought it mainly to verify I liked a ceramic before I fought with my wife to get a $1000 grill. Once I dial the Akorn in, it does everything fine but I'd really like some more temp control and a bit larger grill space...
