Nah, this time of year in Clayton, you would have probably shot one of the younger bucks he may have been traveling behind.

re: Big Deer Killed in Clayton, LA
I got the pics this morning. Heard it was killed up by Tensas somewhere. No story yet.

Seems too late for velvet..... Maybe high fence deer killed a few weeks back....? Not trying to accuse. Just curious.

I know personally that there's some monsters that hide out along the MS River. A few bucks have been killed around our property along the river in the past few years that have scored 180"+. Wouldn't surprise me that those rich ag fields and timber along the river could produce a monster like that. Sort of like that 254" buck killed at Giles Island last year, which is right close to where this buck was supposedly killed.

BUT the velvet has me a little unconvinced.

It's the first of October. Maybe a little uncommon but not unusual, especially being a non-typical. Might have some genetic issues. If it was early November and still in velvet, then yes.

True. All of our bucks have been shed for two weeks or so. Just an observation.

I do think at least he would have started rubbing it off though by now. When they start shedding, it seems they want that shiz gone pronto.

A friend showed me pics of a deer his dad killed near Norwood yesterday. Average 8pt still in velvet.

The Lakeside Ford website on his back glass is Natchez Ferriday area. So either Miss or east La deer unless he traveled out of state.

I found this pic on another message board:

Also said that there is a "near record typical" on the same place.

If this is true, no question it was killed on a high fenced place. Still a very impressive deer, would love to see what the typical looks like.
