What is the best commercially available spray to kill bald faced hornets and get rid of their nest? I was out of town for a week and those bastards decided to build a nest right above eye level in a backyard tree. I almost ran into it just now while I was cutting grass. I may just suck it up and pay the money for someone else to do it. I'm weighing my options

Go out at night with a ladder and a black trash bag. Tie it tight around the limb the nest is built on real quick. Saw the limb off the next day and throw it away or wait a couple days and they will die in the bag and you'll have a cool nest.

I've heard of people doing this and putting in the freezer to kill said hornets and then when they take it out a few days later, they warm up and come back to life and they had 1000's of hornets swarming in the house.

I doubt it's true, but it makes me laugh to think about it happening.

This would be your best option. Sprays make a mess and youll get stung in the process.
If you can reach them bag them and tape the bag in place.
Bald Faced Hornets are mean mother fuqrs
And always have a scout out on patrol so expect atbleast one good sting.

I really don't know, but my dad found one in the woods one morning. He wanted the nest, he told me nothing was in it, he lied. I climbed up in the tree to knock it down and it was full of wasps. They ate me alive. I easily could have fallen and broke several bones or died. Good parenting there, dad.

Holy shite! I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Pest companies want right at $199 to kill them, and I think that's too rich for my blood. It will drop into the 50's tonight, and I could bundle up with heavy pants, jacket, hood, etc. and spray them.

The trash bag idea is intriguing, especially if I double wrap them. I just wonder if that will really work, or if I'll have an idiot's tale to tell.

Trash bag is legit. It works at night. Especially if it is cool.

Well, looking at it again, there is no real way to get a bag over it. It's a pretty big nest, and it goes through several branches. I successfully got rid of a honey bee hive earlier this year, but this one takes me out of my comfort zone.

cheap and easy, shoot it with a shotgun 3 or 10 times from a decent distance and then run.

I got stung by a red wasp once while weed eating around our lake. Got close to their nest and pissed them off. Went to the house to get some ice for the sting and then went back with a shotgun. Two rounds and they were gone.

Probably so, I did swap out his liquid in his mosquito dope to sugar water around that time now that I think about it.
