Been wanting a 1911 for a couple of years and I finally have some cash set aside and my mind set on a Ruger SR1911 with wood grips. One of my local gun shops has it for $699 but if I can save more than $50-$75 I'll buy online. Any advice on where to look online? Bud's has it for $634, just trying to see if there's a better deal out there from a reputable site.

I got mine from Kentucky Gun Company but it looks like they have the same price as Bud's for the SR1911.

Jim's firearms has a used "like new" Ruger SR1911 Commander for sale for $599. I almost bought it on tax free day, and 100% regret that i didn't. The gun was in very good shape, no scratches or anything.

Bud's is good but know that they up it 3-4% if you don't pay with a money order. It's usually still a good deal but just something to take note of.

I have purchased from AuctionArms.com and GunBroker. They usually contact you within a day to set up payment and then they contact your FFL. It's a pretty painless process.

I think you can negotiate with buds a little. Also it's usually free or low shipping. Add in 20 for FFl transfer and see if it's worth your hassle. I bought from Kentucky Gun Co. but I'm sure buds is just as good. Go to Slickguns to find the best deal.

Just looked at slickguns. Gunbuyer.com has it for 609 and free shipping add 20 to that and it's only 629. Local would be 699 plus tax which is around 766.50.

Out of stock

Bud's cost plus my FFL's fee will be $660, which is about $100 less than my local shop with tax. I'll probably keep an eye out for another week or so then order.

How much is typically the fee that the local places charge to process and pickup your online purchase? What would Hebert's charge for example if I bought a gun and chose to have it sent to them for pickup?

Shop around on the fee.

Some charge flat rate, some charge percentage of the purchase price. Flat rate can also be cheap or expensive (10-40).

Small independent smith in town here only charges $10 cash for any FFL transaction, while Bass Pro charges $20 or $30.

This isn't true. I've bought three from them and just used an e-check each time and got the cash discount
