Make sure you use oil that meets the spec in the manual.
If you put regular rotella in it you'll plug the dpf pretty quick. You have to use low ash oil.

I used the rotella in mine and have had the "typewriter tic" ever since. I'm deffinetly going to try a different oil next time

The tick is much more common with the Motorcraft oil. A lot more people use the Motorcraft oil, so it makes sense that way, but it's not a fix.
Ford knows that their own oil causes it, and still has no fix. It's never caused a single issue, other than its annoying.
With all that being said, Motorcraft makes a fine oil. I bought T6 on sale (usually on amazon), bought the Motorcraft oil filter and fuel filters on sale, then paid my local dealership $15 to drop the oil and change filters.

The tic isn't that bad. The people that love to tell you your truck is making a noise is what's the most aggravating lol.

I never had the tick. Even if I did, couldn't hear it after it was deleted.

I have a 6.7 with the delete and can hear it. I've read it gets better after about 500 miles or so after the oil change. I'm at about 2000 now and it still does it intermittently

Take it from a guy who use to run a ford service department, use the motorcraft. That's what Ford recommends and what is in the motor now. Rotella makes a good product, but Motorcraft is was that thing was meant to have.

Rotella T in the 2.5 gallon jugs from Walmart. I use the T6.

I put motocraft super duty in mine. It's what the manufacturer recommends.

Mobil Delvac or Shell Rotella

99 7.3 280,xxx. Rotella T6 every 6 months....It's not a daily driver so it's only a few thousand miles at the most.

Yep I ended up going with the Rotella T6 synthetic after about 20 minutes staring at the rack. LOL I just like synthetics. Not like I abuse the truck anyway just towing a bass boat or SXS usually.

Good choice. Ford has a great oil, but they are also the guys that decided it was smart to put a tank of pee on your truck too.

Delo 400.
On paper, it is easily the best standard oil for a diesel. And works great in all motprs without cats.
