I'm biased, but I believe it 100%, South Louisiana.

California is an awesome, diverse outdoorsmans state, even if you are limiting it to just hunting and fishing

Arkansas does for sure. Oxbows in the east, rivers, mountains in the west.

By Big Game do you include Elk, Mule, and Whitetail or just a good version of one?

I'm going to have to say California.

I'll agree, there are a ton of great places in that state with about every type of terrain imaginable. The cities are another story but that's true about everywhere.

Well for big game no southern state wins. I think it'll have to be a Mid-West state or even a yankee. This I am not willing to give away as the Sportsman paradise so I retract all statements and vote LA.

They have some nice whitetail hunting. I guess it depnds on what you're looking for. Clearly they don't have moose or caribou

And the duck hunting is...well...as good as duck hunting can possibly be.

I posted this in another thread and due to proximity to so much, Memphis is pretty outstanding.

Turkey hunting in West TN/North MS is outstanding

Deer hunting in West TN/North MS is outstanding

Fishing - 3 hr drive to some of the bet trout fishing in the world (cold water not speckled trout). 1 Hr drive to Sardis Lake for bass, 1.5 hr drive to TN river for catfish, SMB, LMB, crappie, etc. 6hrs to coast for saltwater, local ponds for
wetting a line

Duck - Some of the best hunting in the world is within 1-2 hr drive (MS delta, AR delta)

Elk - yep elk in AR and east TN if you're so inclined.

Dove - pretty dang good dove hunting

Quail - nope, none that.

I do enjoy living here.

I realize its not for everyone, but it has more options than most other places. Bass fishing, perch fishing, and saltwater fishing is top notch. Offshore is great as well. Deer and duck hunting is comparable to anywhere, great small game hunting, dove hunting, alligator hunting, frogging, varmint hunting, goose hunting, hog hunting, craw fishing, shrimping, crabbing, cat fishing, turtle hunting, bow fishing, tons of other activities.

With places like the Atchafalaya Spillway, Venice, Cocodrie, Delacroix, and Gibson and surrounding marsh, there is always something to do.

I also love the landscape of the spillway and swamps.

South Louisiana is hands down the best fishing location in the lower 48 in terms of different quality fishing opportunities. The number of species and types of fishing you can pursue are probably double of anywhere else that comes close to our quality. A++ on fishing.

This is without considering the rest of the state, atchaf basin & toledo bend.

Crabbing, and crawfishing also beat everywhere else in the US by a large margin, when compared to their similar stuff (lobsters, scallops). Florida might give us a run for our money here because of their shallow water diving opportunities.

Obviously whitetail is the only real big game animal here. We lose a lot for that, and for the fact that our whitetail hunting is not the best either (still not bad though when you consider the state as a whole).

And few opportunities for upland game bird hunting.

Duck hunting here is as good as anywhere else I would think. Prob tie for first with some other states.

C on hunting? Maybe B-?

LA has tons of quality public land & water.

A

Not much in the way of hiking or camping though.

D

What am I missing out on for outdoorsman activities?

It depends on what you love. I'd pick any Midwest state because my passion is deer hunting.

As for all around outdoor experience Arkansas will be near the top.

Over 330,000 acres of public hunting land in a small state so no matter where you live you are within 45 minutes or an hour of public hunting.

World class duck hunting and trout fishing.

Ample fishing opportunities with the Arkansas River, Degray, Greers Ferry, Hamilton, Ouachita, etc., and a reasonable chance to catch 7+lb bass.

Elk, Black Bear, Turkey, small game, predators, hogs, and a diverse population of whitetail (whether you want to hunt trophy whitetails in eastern AR or see a lot of deer in south Arkansas)
