Ruger American - best grouping cheapie rifle out the box. Add a good scope, and you should still be under $1000.

The answer used to be Remington Model 700.

That is no longer the answer.

I own a Remington 870 12ga and love it. I figured I would check out the 700 since Ive had a lot of luck with the 870. What has your experience been with the new Remington 700s?

and don't get me started on the 770

Remington and Marlin have dropped a few notches in quality in the past few years.

Ruger is the best made USA brands

Brownings are great too, but now made overseas

Ive always wanted a Browning in my safe... I'll definitely check it out. I am big on fit and finish and the Brownings Ive seen are very nice.

I'm hearing good things about Winchester. Apparently now that they're making the model 70 in South Carolina, they're better than pre-64.

Model 70 .308 Featherweight:

.308 Win., 22" bbl, 42 1/4" O/A, 13 3/4" LOP, 6 lbs. 12 oz. $879.99

You can still buy service grade M1's in .308 cal. from the US Military for about $975. Think they are refurbished. You can order online. Would like to hear from someone who has done this.

Prices will drop when/if they ever get the South Korean rifles back. There was an article on some progress last week I think

there is nothing wrong with them. They are absolutely fantastic guns

but people are boycotting them because they decided to be loyal to their employees and not move out of NY after new gun laws were passed
