Beretta 391 issues. Gun clicking on some shots.

Sometimes when I shoot, the gun clicks. I can see that the firing pin has hit the shell, but it must not be hitting it hard enough.
I have tried with several different types of shells and still have the issue. Sometimes the gun shoots all 3 shells no problem, and sometimes it will click on 2 shells in a row.
Any ideas what this could be? Seems like it would be something to do with the firing pin. I have taken the gun apart and cleaned it, but I have never messed with completely taking apart the bolt to clean that.
Thanks in advance.

Disassemble the bolt and clean all the gunk out of the firing pin and bolt. It'll be running fine again

To echo the others, your gun is probably full of shite. Clean it good and don't leave a whole bunch of gun oil in there or it will collect a bunch of shite again.
The old men used to boil their bolts and trigger mechanisms to get all the swamp out of them.

Has anyone recommended cleaning your gun yet?

Thank you all. I figured it has something to do with that, but didn't want to take apart the bolt for no reason.

As mentioned clean the gun – you may be able to the bolt without disassembling. I use a brake cleaner sprayed into bolt/receiver to loosen and get the gradue out. If you use the “straw” that comes w/ the can you can spray up into the receiver and bolt and loosen all the crud. Then I use compressed air to get the stuff out and finish w/ a light coating from a clp. If that doesn’t work than dissemble for a thorough cleaning

If you still have issues after cleaning, there may be something wrong with the trigger mechanism. I had a 3901 that would cycle shells but not fire on the second shot some of the time. It got worse over time. I broke the entire gun down several times and cleaned it good. I was also told to shoot a bunch of heavy loads through it because it "needed to be broken in". I put a case of duck loads through it and still had the same problem. Finally Jim's replaced a piece of the trigger mechanism that was apparently machined incorrectly and it fixed the problem.

That was another thing I was thinking it could be. That the hammer on the trigger mechanism wasn't hitting the back of the bolt hard enough. Going to clean it thoroughly first, then look into that if there are still issue.
