Has anyone else heard that the LA W & F Commission will be taking up a proposal to ban permanent blinds on 15 Louisiana lakes? I have had heard that two of the lakes are Catahoula and Bistineau. Also, there would be a ban on leaving decoys out longer than 2 hours past legal shooting.

They will burn the lakes if this goes through.

Fricked up as it might be they are a hazard to navigation. Especially when they are abandoned and everything has rotted but a few 4x4's sticking up just above the water

First I've heard of it.

I've seen the issue from both sides. A permanent blind is nice, but you rat hole the spot from other hunters on days you may not be there. An open format where it's first come first serve is fair, but it sucks to round that corner at 5 am just to see headlights slinging decoys in your spot.

In the end, private land or a lease is the way to go.

I feel like I need to wear a mouthpiece when running Saline and Catahoula in high water.

Where are the poor Ciceros going to hunt when all free blinds are gone.

The only thing they are used for in Lake Bouef is opening weekend and with that many people hunting you don't need to be well covered to kill a limit of poule deau. By the second week every duck and coot around knows the exact route to take in between blinds to not get hit.

I went yesterday afternoon with my son to run my mudboat and 90% have no brush.

It's going to have some hurdles to overcome before it can be passed. Here is the letter for Bistineau.

Here is what they will have to determine:

1: What qualifies as a "duck blind". Meaning what about floating docks that are made of "manmade" wood and screw, what about docks that your can hunt from???? i know on Bistineau there are SEVERAL floating docks that could be considered "duck blinds" because they are made of "non-natural" material.
2. How are they going to regulate this?? They have a hard time keeping up with the boating traffic on the lake, much less policing the "duck blinds". If this is the case, what means are they going to take if there is a "duck blind".

Just some thoughts that i had while reading this and thinking about all the repercussions that it would have on all lake-goers.

I'd love to see that happen. First come first serve, the way public hunting is supposed to be.

Most of the north louisiana lakes save catahoula are pretty spotty shoots now anyways. They just don't hold the birds they did 20 years ago and catahoula has all the problems with water levels. Seems like there would have to be a special set of rules for catahoula and good luck enforcing them.
