They're hard as hell to catch, especially wading, and especially without a guide

Don't they put up a pretty good fight lbs 4 lbs?

Haven't caught a bonefish yet but I will one day.

And Great pics. You have a very gifted eye.

Yes. They fight very fast. Compared to something familiar, a redfish fights like a tank, and a bonefish fights like a Ferrari.

Depending on size, they can take you into your backing 2-3x. They also don't have a choice but to run horizontally because of how skinny the flats are. Even smaller fish can take you into your backing once. The tough thing with bones is you're fishing them with pretty light tippet because they're so spooky, so you can't stop them when they run or it's over.

eta: and thanks! A couple of these photos were taken by my buddy on the trip with me. He's talented behind the lens as well.

Looks like the ultimate relaxing fishing trip. Did yall rent the kayaks and gear once you got to the islands or brought on the plane?

We travel with all of our fishing gear. Carry on all fly fishing stuff in case the airlines lose our checked bags (happened to me on this trip). The yaks came with the place we rented, and I always try to rent a 4x4 with a roof rack and pack ratchet straps to transport them. I'm considering buying one of the Bote inflatable SUP's though, because we don't always get lucky enough to find a place with yaks.

Would love to do something like this but with a 4 month old and another on the way, it might be 20 years.

Way to go Blue! Good trip. Did yall have any problems with sharks? Last trip I took I had 4 eaten off by lemons and another by a barracuda.

My buddy lost the end of a fly line with a bone hooked up to either a shark or a cuda the last day we fished. We caught one lemon and a bunch of cudas.

Nice. Ive seen some big flies with wire leaders for the toothy critters but haven't tried.

Bones can be tricky to get to hand especially around mangrove edges. When sharks and cuda are around drag control is difficult. Too tight and the bone can pop loose with a wiggle or a run. Too loose and his arse is getting eaten.

Hey guys, so there were some questions about flats fishing in this thread. I just had a DIY blog post put up on SWC's website with some general info. Check it out if y'all are interested.
