My wife has been nursing a seed on the window seal for two months in the "Avocado Boat Thing". Finally a root sprouted. We just put it in a pot two weeks ago. How long until I can expect the first fruit....? 3-5 years?

But when they are ready to come off, they ripen too fast.

Impossible to eat 200!

Unfortunately you're gunna be in it for 8-10 years and that's if you are lucky. Growing from a pit isn't the fastest way. Most Av trees are grafted off of a good rootstock and produce their first one in 4-6 years.

Does anyone know if you can grow avocados in South Louisiana?

I hear some people have had success, but it's hard to do? Have to make sure you only have one tree so they don't cross propagate or something?
