You are writing this as though you think suppressors make it harder to shoot at long range (at least that is how it sounds, correct me if that was not your intent). Anyways. Shooting suppressed helps if anything (more velocity, helps reduce flinch, less recoil).

I have a 6.8 and its suppressed. I could hit a nickel at 100yds easily.

At 400 yds I think the drop is pretty severe but really haven't looked that closely. My son used it last week for youth opening day. Didn't get a shot on on though.

I really, really want a 6.5 creedmore. It will be in the AR-10 platform though.

I'm by no means an expert. That's a long ways to shoot at a deer with a suppressor.

What exactly do you think a suppressor does to a bullet?

You don't have to only shoot subsonic out of one. A super sonic is quieter but you hear the loud crack of the bullet.

400 yards is a long way to shoot a deer with anything. Very few people are capable of doing that consistently unless theyre hunting off of a shooting table. I'd still put my money on airball with most people.

I still don't get why you think a suppressors change things for the worse in terms of making it harder to kill deer or shoot at distance...

Do you plan on stalking every game animal you plan to hunt? If you're sitting in a box stand or a ladder stand, what difference does it make?

And if you occasionally want to walk on foot, the M&P10 is about 8 pounds naked. It won't be over 12 pounds unless you load it with shite.

EDIT: 7.71 pounds naked. Add about 1 pound for an optic with rings, and a couple pounds depending on how much ammo you got in the magazine.

Then you don't want an exotic round.

5.56 is the most common rifle round out there. I would say second runner-up would probably be 308 or 30-06.

Try to go into Walmart and find a nice selection of 300BLK. Or even Academy. Your options are severely limited.

Any other exotic round like 6.8 SPC or the one Chat mentioned are only going to be beneficial to you if you reload. If you don't, 5.56 and 308 are going to be your best options.

I vote AR10. Here's a picture for encouragement.

Not anymore. 6.8 has gotten pretty cheap. You can get FMJs 20 @ $9 and hunting ammo from $15-$20.

As an AK owner, it takes a ton of practice to hit something out to 400 with an AK. Furthest I have gone is 200 with irons on my AK. It is doable but I do not recommend hunting out to 400 with one, especially with irons. That is just unethical.

I'll probably just go AR-10.

If you go AR-10, you can get it in 7mm-08, 6.5 Creedmoor, .243, and several others if you don't want to stick with just a .308.

Don't forget you have to factor the shipping into the per round cost. That American Eagle $9.99 for 20 turns into probably $18 if you're just getting one box. Ammo isnt shipping friendly, unless you can hold out for free shipping deals. Not to mention, some people were talking about shooting 300-400 yards, I doubt the cheap ammo is consistent enough for that.

OP, I think you knew the answer before you asked. Go .308 platform.
