What are some of the options that I have? Max range is 400 yards. Will eventually be suppressed. Will double as hog hunter.

If AR-15 platform doesn't offer what I need in options that are semi low cost options, would moving to the AR-10 be better?

6.5 grendel. 7mm Raptor is also coming out and will be awesome.

Suppression is going to be tougher (maybe not too much - I'm not an expert on suppressors) - but I would go AR-10 for hogs or deer.

I just don't know enough about .300blk or other non-5.56mm NATO options to judge whether or not they'd be adequate for deer or hogs - I just suspect that 5.56mm isn't really suitable for either of those game (probably marginally so for deer, but shot placement will be important.)

Not that the bullet won't kill the animals, but with aggressive hogs you want them to stop where you shoot them. With deer, you don't want to have to track a buck with blood trail and have him come out of a bush at you all wounded and mad.

I mean - at a certain point, given enough effort, you can take deer with .22lr, but that couldn't be classified as either humane or efficient.

I've read that. How does it compare to the 6.8 spc?

Will look that up.

I'd instantly go this route if it didn't weight like 12 lbs

Better for longer ranges than 6.8.

Game changer for deer and hogs. Much more effective range it seems as this round is designed to be purely supersonic. Speer 110 Grain TNT: 2710 fps obtained with both AA1680 and AA5744 Uses standard magazines and ar-15 bolt. Glad i didn't build a blackout yet....

.300 blk is good on hogs and deer and does very well suppressed. However it's not really going to perform well for shots past 200 yards or so. You could go with 6.8 or 6.5 which would be better for the longer shots but they aren't as versatile when it comes to suppressing.

.277 Wolverine

5.56 shooting a .277 caliber bullet. All you need is a barrel change.

Check out this website MDWS

They have all the info on it plus you can order barrels and some ammo. They also have a wildcat forum with 8 or 10 different other AR wildcats they are working on. Their 6mm Mongoose looks promising

Do you reload? How much are you willing to pay per box of 20?

True. If ammo cost is a concern I would probably just build an AR in 6.8 spc. Ammo is readily available online for about $11 per 20. It's gotten pretty cheap
