Opening the Morganza Spillway has no effect on the water levels at Larto, or anywhere upstream of the spillway itself.
quote:

TLDR: Morganza/Bonnet Carre do nothing for us upstream!
I have zero education/training on this, but it just doesn't make sense to me. I guess I am thinking that it's like any other container, and the more exiting, the faster the container will empty. Just doing some googling,

quote:

The Morganza may be needed because the Bonnet Carre alone may not bring enough relief—upstream at Red River Landing

quote:

"It's another way to get water out of the system," said Chris Accardo, chief of operations for the Corps' New Orleans District. "The hydraulic folks will tell us each day which gates to lift so we can maintain 1.5 million cfs at Red River Landing.

So, they are mentioning upstream levels here.

quote:

The Morganza Floodway has never been used as planned to protect New Orleans. A flood that large has not yet happened since the project was finished in 1954. The structure was opened once, however, in 1973. While that was during a major flood, the reason for opening the structure was to take the pressure off of the Old River Control Structure just upstream. The Morganza Floodway drained off enough water and the Old River Control Structure held, saving the day.

Again, I know zero about this.

We may be in the same lot. Are you at J&K?

I'm there..........Mine still in place too. I moved it last year but not this year. Last year we only had about an inch or 2 around ours. In 2016 the previous owner pulled it out but said he would have been OK that was @ 52.13'

The issue is with the Old River Control Structure it’s what keeps NO and BR from being a salt water paradise.

If y'all want something cool to read, go check out a few of the links in the OT-Thread.

I didn't know much about the ORCS but there is a ton to read about it and the implications of its failure.

I think a lot of people get the two confused ORCS is what keeps the MS River from re routing down the Atchafalaya. I think Morganza is the relief valve for the ORCS not a 100% sure on it’s exact purpose.

But if ORCS failed and several scientists think that it eventually will the implications would be catastrophic. Something like 190 chemical plants sucking salt water and the drinking water would be gone. It and a New Madrid Seismic event keep a lot of Domestic Response people up at night.

Good to know. Im still on dry ground but have water on either side of me and it was getting close yesterday. Im on the same driveway as the building with the washers and dryers in it. If you are ever there and need anything give me a shout. I have a prowler camper with a white metal boat shed connected to it.

I'm the last spot (first drive) behind the white house, Jayco Designer 5th wheel and pontoon boat. Hope to meet when the water goes down

No, boat access only. Road is very deep in a lot of spots. Planned on getting it 2 weeks ago but kept listening to locals and Tom Konvicka(dumb i know) who kept saying it was fixing to crest. Instead it kept rising.

I'd reckon they were just looking at NWS forecasts, baw. Tom Konvicka is the man - grew up watching that dude on a grainy CH 5.

I am past the church south of Larto Landing Store. Highway goes under at 48.5. Will get three feet deep at that stretch before rest of the area goes under. No getting campers out then so that is my trigger point. My lot is around 52. At current level it is about 6 in deep at my spot. I do not want snakes, ants, etc taking refuge in my RV. I moved it to a spot about 10 miles away at a friends property outside the comp!ex. Now we wait...

How high is the water over 3102 coming from the south from Marksville. DOTD has had it closed since February.

Are all the fields under water on both sides of 3102 south of Larto?

Not sure about 3102. I check that gauge because LDWF uses it for opening/closing Hunt road in Dewy Willis WMA.

Buddy of mine rode in to Phill's Landing on Monday to check out his camp. His is fine but there are a lot that aren't fairing so well.
