At that time, shrimp will be in the lake and birds will be your friend. The flounder run also happens around November and they will be stacked in the ship channel.

Poly...is Hog Island gully still good for flounder? When I was a kid, we picked up a TON in there...but I didn't know if has changed since they did all that dredging/changing in the 2000s.

It just depends on if they have the weir open or not. It can be great though as long as the water is moving. The cut that goes to joes cove from the ship channel is a great spot for flounder. Shallow flat right next to deep water.

The cut I remember used to go from the Hog into West Cove...does that one still exist?

Yes, there is a weir up by 27 and on the west side is the Sabine reserve with a launch and on the east side is still the reserve for a few hundred yards and that canal runs into west cove, that side also has a launch.

Dang...a lot has changed...

Yeah I'm originally from Sulphur...lived on Moss Lake all my life. Fished Big Lake, Turner's Bay, West Cove all my life growing up...Buddy kept his boat at Heberts on the other side of the world...

I'm from Sulphur myself, SW LA really is a sportsmans paradise. As far as the infrastructure and things to do, it sucks and has a small town feeling which isn't all that of a bad thing.

While it's still mule killin hot, artificial might be tough, so I'd say go get a quart of live shrimp if you're chasing specs. Probably your best bet

I like how they sell shrimp by the quart. Hell, they even appreciate your business.
