I live on a small rural one lane road that doesn't see much traffic but ive had 3 dogs hit by cars in 3 years

Another dog got a back injury and we had to put it down

Last week my wifes 14 yr old dog got paralyzed from the waist down

Last year I had a horse founder and the laminitis was so bad his coffin bone almost pushed through the bottom of its hoof and it had to be put down

Today I walk out and find another one of my horses has a puncture wound near his sheath and a huge lump on his stomach. Thinking he puncture his stomach liner and his guts are pushing down

Has anyone else had this kinda bad luck with animals?

Maybe keep your dogs out of the road? I think I would start there.

14 years old is pretty old, can't count that one.

Horses are just problematic animals, there is always something going wrong with them...though maybe not quite that bad...

Dogs that chase cars generally have a short life.

Also, if you have horses, you have horses with medical issues. That's the nature of it.

That's the thing. None of mine chased cars. Neighbor has two that chase cars and they been around forever. One was hit while I was weedeating fence and another followed me down the driveway taking out garbage. He was on the other side of the road sniffing around and tried to cross in front of a car

I knew id get some smart arse comments from all the OT'ish experts. Just seems like Im having a string of very bad luck when it comes to animals and accidents

Talk about things you know about. Nobody around here has a dog in a fence. If I had a dog I had to keep locked up I might as well not have one

Those bastards live til like 20, too. Peace be upon you.

Feliciana, I am good on animals. At my house, I have a problem with anything water related. Drains, water heaters, AC outflow, toilet tanks, shower pans, hose spigots, you name it.

An old timer once told me, "If you don't ever have animals, you'll never have one die."

It sucks. Our life expectancy is such that we will have many animals come and go in our lifetime. All you can do is provided the best care you can while you can.

Hell, it's the same way with humans. You better love your family and fellow man. Somebody may beat cancer and live to 92, meanwhile, their all state football playing grandson gets killed in a car wreck on the way home from practice.

if you aren't going to have a fence you might as well run over them yourself.

And at least one of them has had multiple dogs hit by cars. This really isn't rocket science. If your dogs are running around in the road, sooner or later they'll get hit by a car.

I mean, I guess you've had some bad luck, but it really isn't that surprising.

I usually like to let Darwin handle these things. If a dogs not smart enough to stay out of the road then shite happens.

Maybe mine get hit because I get them from the pound.

That's fine and all... except for the people who could potentially hit your dogs because you don't keep them out of the road.

I tell them to stay out the road but they don't always listen. If the dick head diving 60 on a one lane gravel road would drive the speed limit then they could pretty much avoid any accident

You'll get hammered for that statement, but there is some truth to it.

It's like people who say, "Don't let the dog out. He'll run away."

You ever stop to think it ain't meant to be? If he doesn't want to be there, why hold him hostage? He knows where he gets fed... He'll either come back or he won't.

By keeping a dog on lock down, you drive his instinct to escape even more. Give him some freedom, and if he survives, he'll listen better and hang close to "the pack".
