A couple weeks ago I bought a Yugo NPAP from Atlantic Firearms, and I love the gun. The front sight was cantered a little bit, but I adjusted that. Also, I didn't experience any of the "cheek slap" people talk about.

After reading AKfiles, it seems like alot of people like the WASR over the Yugo. I agree that there are more aftermarket options for the WASR, but alot of people claimed its a better gun. Well I decided to buy one to see for myself what all of the fuss is about.

I got a WASR for $650 at a local gunshop (seems to be the going rate, even a little lower than some places). I read up on "quality control" things to look for: everything in alignment, smooth action and trigger, stock fit squarely, and magazine fits tight. I did all of this.

I brought a couple magazines that came with my NPAP to check the magazine fit (one Magpul pmag and one metal "made in Korea" one). Both of these magazines fit perfectly in my NPAP with no wobble, but they both had some wobble when inserted in the WASR (tried two different guns they had in stock and bought the gun with the less wobble), and the plastic pmag wasn't as bad as the Korean metal magazine.

According to what I read online this is normal. Does anyone have a WASR that does this? Do I need to try different brand magazines to see which work best with this gun? Any issues in the long run that this might cause?

That's what the dimples above the magwell on the NPAP are for. The WASR doesn't have those. The mag wobble is fine. That's like people that complain about AR upper and lowers having a little wobble between them. Part of the platform.

are the NPAP and WASR better rifles than say one of the milled century ak's?

The C39v2's have good reviews on Cabelas and other sellers websites. I was considering that a couple weeks ago (posted a thread about it), but after several recommendations from this board I bought the NPAP.

I'm planning on shooting my WASR this weekend, so I am curious to see how I like it compared to my NPAP.

It's ok unless the mag wobbles a shitload. Both are fine rifles and will serve you well.

I've always had a want for an AK. Nothing fancy, just reliable.

Did you mean trigger slap (used to be common on early models)?

The WASRs are excellent, but I don't know that they're better than a good Yugo.

So, get a yugo if I want to get a cheapo?

I want whatever the cheapest one is that can be expected to go BLAM with a clip full of cheap arse steel cased junk ammo. I desperately need another fun gun.
