Just had his song on Willies roadhouse. Gladi made it to NOLA to see him a few years ago

shite. I went to see him one last time about 2 years ago. I told my wife it would probably be the last time. Sucks I was right. I've spent as much time with Merle in a boat, truck, or lawnmower as all the rest combined.

Johnny Cash once said "Merle, you are who people think I am."

Eric Church is about the only one I can think of in mainstream country music

He had a hell of a trophy bass pond. I think it was Jimmy Houston that did a show with him on his private lake.

That was the show at Champions Square? I was there. Great concert and one hell of an entertainer.

couldn't shine Hag's shoes. Maybe Sturgill or Frank Foster, but no one that has a hit record right now will ever reach his level.

I grew up listening to Merle dominate the radio play list, and aspired to play his songs when I got my first guitar.

Sad day, but he lived mighty hard.

Truth. I doubt anyone from today's group of country artists comes anyway close to Merle when it's all said and done.

Hence the reason I added "mainstream country". Sturgill and Foster aren't considered mainstream

ETA: Maybe Stapleton

That is sad –I was listening to outlaw country and they said that he had to cancel is dates w/ Willie Nelson in April because he was still fighting pneumonia.
I remember fishing w/ my dad back in the day listening to merle, tammy, willie, Johnny, possum, stomping tom, etc on cassette tapes because we were in the middle of nowhere in N Ont w/ no radio. He and my dad are same age :(

All men die. Few actually live.

Merle was one of them.

RIP, you old Okie.

Just on a side note - all the stuff that Johnny Cash tried to make folks think he did or experienced? Merle actually did/experienced.
